Bruce Springsteen<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Steven Spielberg<\/a>\u00a0will be among the guests on the final week of\u00a0The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.<\/p>\n

In July last year,\u00a0Colbert<\/a>\u00a0shocked the TV industry by\u00a0announcing on air that\u00a0The Late Show had been cancelled by its network CBS<\/a>. The comedian and satirist has hosted the show since 2015, when he took over from David Letterman, who had been at the helm for 22 years before him.<\/p>\n

CBS has chosen to retire the\u00a0Late Show\u00a0franchise entirely, describing the move as \u201cpurely a financial decision\u201d,\u00a0although it has been widely\u00a0speculated\u00a0that the cancellation might be politically motivated, due to Colbert\u2019s pattern of openly\u00a0criticising\u00a0the\u00a0Donald Trump <\/a>administration.<\/p>\n

Just four episodes of\u00a0The Late Show\u00a0remain, and the guests have been announced. On Monday (May 18), there will be an episode dubbed \u2018The Worst of The Late Show\u2019, which has been labelled as \u201cnot a clip show!\u201d, while on Tuesday, Colbert will interview his mentor and fellow\u00a0Daily Show\u00a0alum\u00a0Jon Stewart<\/a>, as well as Hollywood legend Spielberg.<\/p>\n

Tuesday\u2019s episode will also feature a special musical performance from\u00a0David Byrne<\/a>, while on Wednesday he will interview Springsteen, and take his own long-running \u2018Colbert Questionert\u2019,\u00a0with special guests.\u00a0The final episode will air on Thursday (May 21), although no\u00a0specific\u00a0details have been shared.<\/p>\n

After the show\u2019s cancellation was announced, Trump wrote<\/a>: \u201cI absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!\u201d<\/p>\n

The host hit back at the President on his next show<\/a>, feigning outrage and saying:\u00a0\u201cHow dare you, sir? Would an untalented man be able to compose the following satirical witticism?\u201d.\u00a0He then turned to a camera marked \u201cEloquence Cam\u201d and said in a New York accent: \u201cGo fuck yourself\u201d.<\/p>\n

Colbert has not just been outspoken about Trump, but also previously\u00a0criticised\u00a0CBS\u2019 parent company Paramount for settling a lawsuit with Trump for $16million (\u00a312million) over his claims that\u00a0CBS News\u00a0deceptively edited an interview with his 2024 election rival\u00a0Kamala Harris.<\/a><\/p>\n

The cancellation has stoked fears in the TV industry about the future of late-night shows, with\u00a0Conan O\u2019Brien using a speech last summer to predict that it might \u201cdisappear\u201d<\/a>,\u00a0as \u201cthe life\u00a0we\u2019ve\u00a0all known for almost 80 years is undergoing seismic change\u201d.<\/p>\n

Colbert, meanwhile,\u00a0has been announced as a writer on a new Lord Of The Rings sequel<\/a>, subtitled Shadows\u00a0Of\u00a0The\u00a0Past.\u00a0He is a well-known Tolkien expert and had a cameo in\u00a0The Hobbit\u00a0films.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Bruce Springsteen\u00a0and\u00a0Steven Spielberg\u00a0will be among the guests on the final week of\u00a0The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
