\n\tA sequel to \u201cHope<\/a>,\u201d Na Hong-jin\u2019s alien action epic that rocked Cannes Film Festival<\/a> on Sunday night, is already in the works.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Korean auteur revealed the news during a press conference on Monday, saying: \u201cI think you can readily imagine this sequel. And there\u2019s a script that\u2019s already been done that I\u2019d like to shoot. So if I have the opportunity, I would indeed make a sequel if possible.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe big-budget film \u2014 which stars Hwang Jung-min, Zo In-sung, and Hoyeon Jung as well as Michael Fassbender<\/a>, Alicia Vikander<\/a>, Taylor Russell and Cameron Britton \u2014 combines a gritty survival story with an original sci-fi mythology. Fassbender, Vikander and Russell all play CGI aliens who are invading earth. <\/p>\n

\n\tAsked during the press conference why they signed on to the film, Vikander said she became interested in Korean cinema after attending the Busan Film Festival early on in her career. \u201cI just fell in love with Asian cinema,\u201d she said, mentioning that she saw Na\u2019s previous film \u201cThe Wailing\u201d and was \u201cutterly blown away.\u201d She even tried to work with Na on a different project which didn\u2019t come to fruition. He then \u201creached out two or three years later and said, \u2018I have some aliens.\u2019 And I was intrigued,\u201d she continued. \u201cI didn\u2019t think, I said yes! I think director Na is incredible, such a visionary, and I felt very honored to be part of his film.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFassbender, who is married to Vikander, then quipped: \u201cAlicia told me to do it.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cHe listens to me!\u201d she responded, causing the room to erupt in laughter.<\/p>\n

\n\tRussell said Vikander also told her about the project, but she had been wanting to make a foreign film for a while. \u201cThe dream is to be able to work in a different country on foreign, to me, language films and to work with an auteur. And director Na is an auteur who makes incredible cinema,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cIt is kind of beyond a dream to think of \u2014 I wouldn\u2019t even cast myself in any of his films because it feels inconceivable, so when the call came, you made me laugh the entire time I talked to you, so it made me think this would be a fun ride,\u201d Russell added. \u201cIt would be great to do more Korean films, and maybe speak Korean as well in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNa said that he \u201cdid everything he could to persuade\u201d the three stars. \u201cAlicia and Michael and of course Taylor as well, all these three characters really have their own world,\u201d he said. \u201cFor me, I sort of hoped I could create a whole world around them.
