Aqua has announced they\u2019re breaking up almost 30 years after they released their iconic hit, \u201cBarbie Girl.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Danish group announced the news on Instagram<\/a> Monday.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter many incredible years, we have decided to close the chapter of AQUA as a live band,\u201d they wrote. \u201cAQUA has been such a huge part of our lives, and together we\u2019ve had the chance to experience more than we ever dared to dream of.\u201d<\/p>\n Aqua announced they\u2019re splitting up in an Instagram message Monday. Getty Images<\/p>\n The message continued, \u201cWhen you\u2019ve been together for this long, you also learn when it\u2019s time to protect what you\u2019ve created together. For us, this feels like the right moment to say goodbye, while the memories are still strong, and while the love for the music, the story, and each other remains intact.\u201d<\/p>\n The band concluded the message by thanking their fans and signing off with \u201cnothing but love and gratitude.\u201d<\/p>\n The original four members of Aqua included S\u00f8ren Rasted, Lene Nystr\u00f8m, Ren\u00e9 Dif and Claus Norreen. Some of the lyrics include \u201cI\u2019m a blonde bimbo girl in a fantasy world \/ Dress me up, make it tight, I\u2019m your dolly.\u201d<\/p>\n The band is best known for their iconic 1997 hit, \u201cBarbie Girl.\u201d Dif and Nystr\u00f8m are seen here performing in July 2025. WireImage<\/p>\n However, the lawsuit was dismissed in 2002.<\/p>\n Aqua enjoyed a resurgence in 2023 thanks to the movie \u201cBarbie\u201d starring Margot Robbie<\/a> and Ryan Gosling as Barbie and Ken. The song was sampled by Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice for the rappers\u2019 own song for the movie, titled \u201cBarbie World.\u201d<\/p>\n This is not the first time Aqua has broken up.
