{"id":591966,"date":"2026-05-19T06:34:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T06:34:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/591966\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T06:34:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T06:34:11","slug":"youth-purposely-overdosing-on-benadryl-nipissing-fn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/591966\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth purposely overdosing on Benadryl: Nipissing FN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"b-date-custom__date-item\">Updated:\u00a0May 18, 2026 at 1:32PM EDT<\/p>\n<p class=\"b-date-custom__date-item\">Published:\u00a0May 18, 2026 at 12:13PM EDT<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nfn.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/nfn.ca\/\">Nipissing First Nation<\/a>\u2019s leadership says some youth and young adults in the community are intentionally taking high doses of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benadryl.ca\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.benadryl.ca\/\">Benadryl<\/a>, a common allergy medicine, in a dangerous trend that carries the risk of coma or death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThere are no safe or positive effects from taking high doses, only serious risks,\u201d wrote the First Nation community in a news release.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The ongoing trend involves young people seeking what they may perceive as exciting or different effects from the drug, but health officials say those feelings come at an extreme cost.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" data-chromatic=\"ignore\" alt=\"\" class=\"c-image\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/DK3GZYDUZZEELENPCK2K6LRCT4.png\"  width=\"800\" height=\"450\"\/>Benadryl A stock photo of a 36-caplet package of Benadryl allergy medication.
