{"id":592438,"date":"2026-05-19T12:29:08","date_gmt":"2026-05-19T12:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/592438\/"},"modified":"2026-05-19T12:29:08","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T12:29:08","slug":"heartless-driver-jailed-for-fatal-birmingham-pavement-crash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/592438\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Heartless&#8217; driver jailed for fatal Birmingham pavement crash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">A man who rammed his car into a husband and wife as they walked hand in hand down a street in a &#8220;cruel and heartless&#8221; act has been jailed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Harinderpal Athwal, 41, left Birmingham city centre on the morning of 16 December and headed down Soho Road, where he swerved his Vauxhall Corsa into oncoming traffic and mounted the pavement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He struck the man, 54, and the woman, 47, before hitting a parked car.
