\n\tTwo years after his Donald Trump<\/a> biopic \u201cThe Apprentice\u201d premiered at Cannes, Sebastian Stan<\/a> reflected on the role during the press conference for his new movie \u201cFjord<\/a>,\u201d saying America is \u201cin a really, really bad place.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhen the actor was asked his thoughts on \u201cThe Apprentice\u201d \u2014 which premiered just before the 2024 election \u2014 now that Trump has been in office again for over a year, journalists in the room erupted into nervous laughter. But Stan responded: \u201cIt\u2019s just not a laughing matter, to be honest. It isn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tHe continued, \u201cI think we\u2019re in a really, really bad place. I really do. And to be honest with you, when you\u2019re looking at what\u2019s happening, right \u2014 if we\u2019re talking about the consolidation of the media, censorship, threats, the supposed lawsuits that seemingly never end but don\u2019t actually go anywhere. You know, the writing was on the wall. We encountered all that with the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTrump attempted to halt the Ali Abbasi-directed \u201cApprentice\u201d ahead of its Cannes premiere in 2024, threatening a lawsuit and calling the film \u201cgarbage\u201d and \u201cpure fiction.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThree days before the festival, [we were] unsure if the movie was going to play the festival,\u201d Stan said. \u201cSo maybe people are paying attention more to that film, I think it will stand the test of time for that. But we went through all of it, right before Jimmy Kimmel and Stephen Colbert and so on. So, I wish it wasn\u2019t like that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tStan\u2019s latest movie, \u201cFjord,\u201d rocked Cannes on Monday night with a 10-minute standing ovation<\/a>. Directed by Romanian filmmaker Cristian Mungiu, the heart-wrenching family drama stars Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve as the parents of a Romanian family with strict religious beliefs who move to a small village in Norway. When bruises are noticed on their daughter\u2019s body at school, their five children are taken away from them and a legal saga ensues.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe combination of Mungiu, Stan and Reinsve could be enough to earn \u201cFjord\u201d the Palme d\u2019Or.
