The BBC<\/a> has decided to scrap a long running talk show after eight series on air.<\/p>\n Since 2020, fans have loved delving into the world of literature with Between the Covers, which sees Sara Cox chatting to celebrity guests <\/a>about their favourite books.<\/p>\n Over the years, the show has featured everyone from Sophie Ellis-Bextor<\/a> and Will Young to Nish Kumar and new MasterChef host Grace Dent<\/a>.<\/p>\n However, the BBC has announced programme has been cancelled with no series planned to air this autumn, meaning 2024\u2019s eighth batch of episodes will be the last.<\/p>\n In a statement, the broadcaster said: \u2018After eight series we have made the difficult decision to bring Between the Covers to an end to enable us to prioritise high-impact content that drives viewers to iPlayer.<\/p>\n \u2018We would like to thank Sara Cox and all the team at Cactus TV for their hard work bringing Between the Covers to our screens.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t The decision to axe the show hasn\u2019t gone down well with fans, with some arguing that shows like Mrs. Brown\u2019s Boys \u2013 which has proven divisive over the years<\/a> with declining ratings \u2013 should be pulled instead.<\/p>\n X user @emily_glenister wrote: \u2018Between the Covers (spreading the word about books & culture, getting people back in to reading, introducing viewers to new genres \/ authors): \u274c<\/p>\n \u2018Another series of Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys: \u2705\u2705\u2705<\/p>\n \u2018Nice own goal @BBC\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Devastated. Mrs Brown\u2019s Boys ran their race ages ago,\u2019 agreed @dan_stubbings, while @84Dippy revealed they were \u2018absolutely gutted\u2019 by the news, and others branded the decision \u2018ridiculous\u2019.<\/p>\n \t\t Fan @NicoleaKwrites argued: \u2018What a nonsense decision! The BBC are basically a self parody at this point.\u2019<\/p>\n \u2018Really bad decision. Only show I actually watch on the BBC,\u2019 @clarejk chimed in, as @PippyG82 said: \u2018This is sad \u2013 really enjoyed this programme and bought 9 books as a result of watching. Stupid decision by the BBC.\u2019<\/p>\n Others reminisced about the new books they discovered through the show, with another viewer, @TheEllieMo, describing Between The Covers as \u2018one of the few decent programmes on the \t\t \t\t Fan @ClareDraycott wrote: \u2018Oh, no! I loved #BetweenTheCovers. I found some really good reads by watching that programme.<\/p>\n \u2018The @BBC have made some very odd decisions of late, but why axe such an engaging show which must be comparatively cheap to make? It\u2019s nuts!
