\n\tA film adaptation of mystery-adventure video game franchise \u201cBroken Sword<\/a>\u201d is being developed by game maker Revolution Software, producer Story Kitchen and Disney\u2019s live-action \u201cBeauty and the Beast\u201d screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos.<\/p>\n

\n\tCreated by Charles Cecil, the \u201cBroken Sword\u201d series debuted in 1996 with \u201cThe Shadow of the Templars.\u201d The franchise follows intrepid American George Stobbart and fearless French journalist Nicole Collard as they navigate ecclesiastical conspiracy throughout iconic European settings.<\/p>\n

\n\tAcross five titles released over the past 30 years, the \u201cBroken Sword\u201d games have been played by more than 10 million players and is credited as a foundational title for modern-day narrative-driven gaming. Recently, Cecil\u2019s Revolution Software concluded a successful Kickstarter campaign for the latest \u201cBroken Sword\u201d remake project, \u201cSmoking Mirror Reforged,\u201d which raised nearly $1 million against a $68,000 goal.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe \u201cBroken Sword\u201d movie will be written by Spiliotopoulos, whose other writing credits include \u201cThe Unholy,\u201d \u201cPirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,\u201d and \u201cG.I. Joe\u201d movie \u201cSnake Eyes.\u201d <\/p>\n

\n\tStory Kitchen, which is working on several high-profile TV and film adaptations of video games, including the new \u201cSonic the Hedgehog\u201d film franchise and Amazon\u2019s upcoming \u201cLife Is Strange\u201d series, will produce the film alongside Revolution\u2019s Cecil and his partner, Noirin Carmody.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cVery few franchises of this era have stayed relevant, premium, and loyal to the intelligence of their audience. \u2018Broken Sword\u2019 has done all three,\u201d Story Kitchen co-founders Dmitri M. Johnson and Michael Lawrence Goldberg said in a joint statement Tuesday. \u201cOur work here isn\u2019t to adapt a game into a film. It\u2019s to move a world that has been building for three decades into the next medium it deserves, working hand-in-hand with the people who built it.\u201d<\/p>\n
