\n\tMiles Teller<\/a> made the press rounds at the Cannes Film Festival<\/a> to promote James Gray\u2019s competition entry \u201cPaper Tiger<\/a>,\u201d in which he stars opposite Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson. But Teller is wary when it comes to interviews after he felt violated by an infamous 2015 Esquire profile <\/a>that labeled him \u201ckind of a dick\u201d and claimed he would \u201ccharm the world with his dickishness.\u201d The profile even started with the line: \u201cYou\u2019re sitting across from Miles Teller at the Luminary restaurant in Atlanta and trying to figure out if he\u2019s a dick.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cThat was so mishandled,\u201d Teller told IndieWire <\/a>in Cannes. \u201cThe reason why I have not done profiles is because I said, \u2018Wow, if I\u2019m not doing this interview on camera, this person can misquote things or put things out of order or say things that didn\u2019t happen.\u2019 It felt like such a violation of what actually transpired.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI told my team, \u2018Guys, I don\u2019t think I\u2019m doing this again, because I\u2019m reading this and this doesn\u2019t sound like me to me. This is not life, so why would I ever want to be a part of something where they can just put that in?’\u201d he continued. \u201cSo it\u2019s unfortunate that being a good person, that doesn\u2019t sell. People want to click on the negativity. If you go to bed and put your head on your pillow and how you treat people truly, that\u2019s what matters.\u00a0That [2015] interview\u00a0was like 12 years ago.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTeller concluded that \u201cthe actors, the directors, the crew and the producers\u201d all know who he really is because \u201cyou can\u2019t hide who you are when you\u2019re on set.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tResponding on Twitter\/X at the time of the Esquire profile\u2019s publication, Teller wrote: \u201cEsquire couldn\u2019t be more wrong. I don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything cool or entertaining about being a dick or an asshole. Very misrepresenting.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tSet in 1986, \u201cPaper Tiger\u201d follows two brothers, Irwin and Gary Pearl, whose get-rich scheme to help clean up the Gowanus Canal ends in disaster after Irwin (Teller), a nebbish family man, angers Russian mobsters by unwittingly witnessing their criminal activity. It falls to Gary (Driver), a former cop, to bail him out, but his efforts to make a deal only drag them deeper into a world of violence.<\/p>\n
