The civil service\u2019s biggest union will demand a public inquiry into the process which saw Capita win the contract to administer the Civil Service Pension Scheme.<\/p>\n
Delegates at PCS\u2019s annual conference yesterday backed a motion asking the union\u2019s leadership to call for a public probe into the Civil Service Pension Scheme outsourcing process.<\/p>\n
The motion also commits the union to campaign for a \u201cstrengthened statutory and contractual framework for all critical payment and pension services\u201d.<\/p>\n
Delegates also voted for a motion asking the union\u2019s leaders to \u201curgently seek a meeting with the minister for the Cabinet Office to demand insourcing\u201d of the civil service pensions contract.<\/p>\n
During the debate, Angela Grant, PCS\u2019s DWP Group president, told the conference that following PCS\u2019s last meeting with the Cabinet Office, the union has \u201clittle faith\u201d in Capita meeting its deadline to reach full contractual compliance by the end of June.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are writing to the paymaster general calling on him to take the same steps as he took with the Royal Mail and to cancel the civil service pensions contract,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Giving an opening address on the conference’s first day, general secretary Fran Heathcote noted that Labour had promised the \u201cbiggest wave of insourcing in a generation\u201d, and said this had barely\u00a0yet registered as even a \u201cripple\u201d.<\/p>\n
