It might surprise you, then, to learn that the head of Google DeepMind, Demis Hassabis, actually thinks job cuts caused by AI are not the way forward.<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s wealth of machine learning tools means that anyone can vibe code\u2014<a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/ai\/i-taught-my-dog-to-vibe-code-games-yup-someone-actually-managed-to-get-claude-ai-to-code-a-game-based-on-the-keyboard-inputs-of-a-pooch\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/ai\/i-taught-my-dog-to-vibe-code-games-yup-someone-actually-managed-to-get-claude-ai-to-code-a-game-based-on-the-keyboard-inputs-of-a-pooch\/\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" data-before-rewrite-localise=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/software\/ai\/i-taught-my-dog-to-vibe-code-games-yup-someone-actually-managed-to-get-claude-ai-to-code-a-game-based-on-the-keyboard-inputs-of-a-pooch\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">including this dog<\/a>. Still, Hassabis thinks it&#8217;s premature to call time on software development as a profession. \u201cI have no idea why people are going around talking with certainty about that,\u201d Hassabis <a data-analytics-id=\"inline-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/demis-hassabis-ai-layoffs-deepmind-google-io\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-url=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/demis-hassabis-ai-layoffs-deepmind-google-io\/\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\" data-hl-processed=\"none\" data-mrf-recirculation=\"inline-link\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">told Wired this week<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a id=\"elk-seasonal\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-052e2734-0e93-4599-a871-62fa76133a4d-2\">In that same conversation, he later went on to criticise companies looking to replace engineers with AI, saying, &#8220;I think it&#8217;s a lack of imagination\u2014and a lack of understanding of what&#8217;s really going to happen.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Latest Videos From<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/media\/shared\/img\/logos\/white\/pcgamer.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"block h-[18px] w-auto shrink-0 brightness-0 invert\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.pcgamer.com\/media\/img\/pcgamer_logo.svg\" alt=\"\" class=\"max-h-12 w-auto\" aria-hidden=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"elk-dc0f1093-0b22-452b-8d80-8668bbb25f34\">So, what future does Hassabis envision instead? Hassabis designed and directed 2003&#8217;s Republic: The Revolution, and also worked on 2004&#8217;s Evil Genius, though the studio closed in 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Hassabis also reflected on the subject of games and how today&#8217;s AI has yet to create a killer title without human help.
