Amidst reports of a new Xbox Elite Controller and a new Xbox Cloud Gaming pad circulating recently<\/a>, it looks as though Microsoft has made a small revision to the standard Xbox Series X|S controller – and it’s probably not what you’re expecting to see.<\/p>\n

As spotted by an avid fan on Reddit<\/a>, the new Forza Horizon 6<\/a> Limited Edition controller \u2014 which we covered last month on the site<\/a> \u2014 is missing Microsoft’s legacy headset port; you know, the one that was needed for the launch era Xbox One headsets (you can see it next to the headphone jack above).<\/p>\n

As you can see in the images down below, the port has been blocked off with Microsoft’s newest version of the Xbox Series X|S controller:<\/p>\n

Now, we haven’t spotted this on any other Xbox controllers yet, but we’re assuming the change will apply to standard Series X|S pads too – at least ones that are being manufactured from this point forward. As we noted up above, this port has been present since the 2013 Xbox One controller, and has sat alongside the 3.5mm headphone jack since that generation’s first controller revision in 2015.<\/p>\n

It’s interesting that Microsoft deems this the right time to get rid of it, and despite us not being particularly bothered about its removal, some of the responses in that Reddit thread<\/a> suggest that it’s still used by some for quick access to physical audio controls. We’ll be on the lookout for similar changes to the standard Xbox Series X|S pads, but this seems to be a very recent change – starting with the Forza Horizon 6 controller this month.<\/p>\n
