Prince William is visiting the Isles of Scilly today, Friday 22 May, as he continues his tour of the West Country.<\/p>\n
The future king spent Thursday 21 May, visiting new Duchy of Cornwall homes in Nansledan, Newquay.<\/p>\n
Today, the Duke of Cornwall is on St Mary’s. This morning he visited the Isles of Scilly Hospital to meet staff, patients and open a new facility which has increased medical capacity to the Isles.<\/p>\n
During his time there he also met Hilda Richards, the oldest resident living on the Isles of Scilly at a 102 years old.<\/p>\n
This afternoon, the Duke saw the near complete construction site of ten new sustainable homes<\/a> being delivered by the Duchy of Cornwall. <\/p>\n The development has been designed to help tackle the Isles\u2019 acute housing shortage, with homes prioritised for those who have lived on the Isles of Scilly for more than five years, or who currently work on the islands. <\/p>\n The Prince of Wales, also known as the Duke of Cornwall, speaking with staff during a visit to a new Duchy of Cornwall housing development. Credit: PA Images <\/p>\n Once complete, the homes will feature high levels of insulation, positive ventilation throughout and rooftopsolar panels. Each property will also include a dedicated parking space for the island car-share scheme, with provision for electric vehicle charging points. <\/p>\n The homes are expected to welcome their first residents in winter 2026.<\/p>\n After visiting the new development, the Duke met local emergency responders to hear about the role they played when the islands were battered by Storm Goretti<\/a> earlier this year.<\/p>\n The Duke replanted a tree in an area damaged by Storm Goretti in January<\/p>\n The Isles of Scilly experienced significant loss to its shelterbelt trees during the January storm, which play a vital role in protecting communities from high winds and storms.<\/p>\n During the visit, The Duke replanted a shelterbelt tree and reflected on the Duchy’s role in providing additional resources, organising essential repairs and commissioning expert assessments from surveyors and forestryspecialists.<\/p>\n
