Those looking to get away for the bank holiday weekend and make the most of the warm weather faced delays and transport disruption on Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n
A crash at Junction 44 of the M4 westbound caused disruption during the mid-afternoon but traffic had returned to normal by the main rush hour. Elsewhere, a serious crash closed Wick Road at St Brides Major, with an air ambulance also attending the scene.<\/p>\n
Prior to the evening, Traffic Wales warned they expected the M4 to be busier than normal due to the In It Together festival which is being held at Margam Park from May 22 to 24.<\/p>\n
As well as congestion on the roads, there were a number of delays on trains on Friday. There was disruption on services between Shrewsbury and Machynlleth after emergency services were called to the line near Shrewsbury following reports of a casualty on the line.<\/p>\n
The person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene<\/a> and the British Transport Police confirmed the death was not being treated as suspicious.<\/p>\n Significant train delays will continue in Wales over the weekend with a spate of planned improvement works taking place across the train network.<\/p>\n Transport for Wales is encouraging passengers to plan ahead as essential rail improvements take place across the Cardiff and valleys network.<\/p>\n Planned infrastructure improvements will close all lines through Cardiff Queen Street between Sunday, May 24 and bank holiday Monday, May 25.<\/p>\n To keep passengers moving, a combination of rail replacement buses and service diversions will operate across the local Cardiff and Valleys network.<\/p>\n Elsewhere, Network Rail has confirmed it is set to undertake work on the Severn Tunnel that the company says will “make the route more reliable for years to come”.
