Good Housekeeping<\/a> about his late father James and the devastating impact Parkinson\u2019s had on his family.<\/p>\nReynolds revealed his father struggled to speak openly about his illness and described how the condition left him feeling isolated and ashamed.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy dad really struggled with vulnerability,\u201d Reynolds said.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou would think a diagnosis would bring you a sort of relief, but to him, it was treated as a source of shame. He said the word \u2018Parkinson\u2019s\u2019 maybe three times in his life.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Deadpool star explained how his father later experienced hallucinations and delusions linked to the disease, something the family had not been prepared for.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe fact that what my dad saw was so complex \u2014 it must have felt so real to him,\u201d Reynolds said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHow isolating and lonely. If he\u2019d been able to include us all in what he was feeling, we could have been a real source of empathy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reynolds also admitted there remains one particularly painful regret after his father died aged 74.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have a great sadness that my kids never got to meet him,\u201d he said. \u201cMy oldest daughter James was born right before he died.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Wrexham co-owner also reflected on the emotional toll the illness placed on his mother Tammy, who became his father\u2019s full-time carer as his condition worsened.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy mom just really lost herself,\u201d Reynolds explained. \u201cIt\u2019s a terrible tragedy to be in the position that she was in.\u201d<\/p>\n
Despite their complicated relationship, Reynolds said there were still \u201creal shining moments\u201d with his father that remain deeply emotional for him today.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere were a lot of real shining moments,\u201d he said. \u201cI still to this day get sort of emotional about all these little things.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reynolds has worked closely with Parkinson\u2019s charities and awareness campaigns in recent years, including alongside Michael J.
