The field for the third men’s major of the year is taking shape.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The best players in the world will head to Shinnecock Hills in Southampton, New York, over 18-21 June for the 2026 U.S. Open<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Last time out, America’s J.J. Spaun overcame a flooded Oakmont, a lengthy rain delay and an inspired performance from Scotland’s Robert MacIntyre to win his first major title.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The American, then 34, birdied his final two holes to win by two shots.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He only needed a par on the 72nd hole to win by one but capped off the victory in style, holing a 64-foot birdie putt to spark wild scenes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

J.J. Spaun is the reigning U.S. Open champion<\/p>\n

The U.S. Open is known as the hardest major title to win and for that reason the bookmakers are making runaway world number Scottie Scheffler<\/a> the pre-tournament favourite, followed by Rory McIlroy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Scheffler was utterly dominant last season and although he only has one PGA Tour victory to his name in 2026 he has still racked up six top five finishes.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old American is making his first attempt at completing the career grand slam having secured the third leg at last year’s Open at Royal Portrush.\u00a0<\/p>\n

McIlroy<\/a>, 37, won the first major of the season at the 2026 Masters.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The Northern Irishman became only the fourth golfer in history to successfully defend the green jacket.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods<\/a> and Sir Nick Faldo are the others to have achieved the feat.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rory McIlroy is among the favourites to win the U.S. Open<\/p>\n

England’s Aaron Rai won the second major of the year, the PGA Championship, on 17 May at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Eslewhere, there are plenty of other big names who will believe they are capable of winning the U.S. Open.\u00a0<\/p>\n

There are several LIV Golf recruits in the field and the breakaway tour’s charge will be led by Jon Rahm.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rahm, who won the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines, finished runner up to Rai at last month’s PGA Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bryson DeChambeau is looking to land his third U.S. Open title but has been dreadful in the majors this season, missing cuts at the Masters and PGA Championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Elaewhere, the likes of Cameron Young, Ludvig Aberg, Xander Schauffele, Ludvig Aberg, Tommy Fleetwood, Matthew Fitzpatrick and Brooks Koepka will also believe they can win the 2026 U.S. Open.<\/p>\n

The field will also be without some big names. The aforementioned Woods is not expected to play having only recently returned to the United States from rehab in Switzerland.\u00a0<\/p>\n
