Officials at South Norfolk Council say they are hoping to receive its new fleet next month after being forced to miss the March 31 deadline to offer a simpler recycling system.

Councils across the country are changing how they collect waste as part of new measures introduced by the government, which include weekly food waste collections.

The delay in receiving new vehicles has meant the council has pushed back the launch of its changes to the new recycling service by 10 weeks.

The council had been aiming to have its fleet ready this month, but the flurry in demand for specialist vehicles has caused a backlog in the supply chain.

Martyn Hooton, responsible for environment at the council, confirmed at a recent meeting that leftover food waste caddies would be delivered to homes from the start of July.

An initial 28,000 homes will receive a caddy, although it is yet to be decided which properties are going to be delivered to first.

From Monday, September 28 a further 41,000 homes will be sent their caddy.

A third and final phase will be targeted at delivering the new service to HMOs and blocks of flats.

“We have employed three extra members of staff now who are going to assist with that piece of work,” said Mr Hooton.

“Those premises that do present that slightly more difficult challenge will be visited separately and a method of food waste recycling will be discussed.”

He added the July date hinges on the collection vehicles being delivered on time.

“If that all goes as planned, the start date will then be confirmed,” he said.

At the same meeting, Kathryn Cross, councillor for Hethersett, was elected chairman of the council.

Officials at South Norfolk Council say they are hoping to receive its new fleet next month after being…

[22
1397,90,56,54,55
post-599567","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-environment","tag-environment","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom
["GET
