\n The club is delivering boxing sessions for secondary school pupils across Newport, with the aim of developing their skills so that they can join boxing classes at the gym.\n<\/p>\n
\n It is also working with the police and probation service to support young offenders, as well as providing sessions for victims of crime.\n<\/p>\n
\n During the sessions, participants practise boxing skills and work on their fitness, while also learning about discipline, developing a positive mindset, and teamwork.\n<\/p>\n
\n Police and Crime Commissioner Jane Mudd said: “This project delivers a wide range of benefits, from improving physical fitness and strengthening mental resilience to learning and developing new skills.\n<\/p>\n
\n “By offering young people the opportunity to try these activities at a time in their lives when we know they are more susceptible to becoming involved in crime and anti-social behaviour, we are equipping them with the skills they need to make positive, healthier choices about their future.”\n<\/p>\n
\n The project supports the priorities set out in the Commissioner\u2019s Police, Crime and Justice Plan and is partially funded using money recovered from the proceeds of crime.\n<\/p>\n
\n Community groups can apply to the fund for grants ranging from \u00a31,000 to \u00a350,000 to support local initiatives.\n<\/p>\n

\n Boxing coach Billy Reynolds said: “With boxing comes a sense of purpose and achievement.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It teaches emotional control, discipline, and self-restraint.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It also provides a healthy outlet for aggression and stress and can help young people to better manage their feelings and frustrations.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Training regularly also helps to develop resilience and a strong sense of control, and participants are more likely to avoid harmful coping mechanisms such as alcohol or drugs.\n<\/p>\n
