\n\tNetflix<\/a> is set to acquire Cannes Film Festival <\/a>competition title The Black Ball<\/a> (La Bola Negra), featuring\u00a0Pen\u00e9lope Cruz and Glenn Close<\/a> in supporting roles, for the U.S., according to sources. <\/p>\n

\n\tThe Spanish-language movie, directed by Javier Ambrossi<\/a> and Javier Calvo<\/a>, a creative duo and former couple known in their native country as Los Javis, world premiered at Cannes on Thursday evening to a thunderous, lengthy standing ovation.<\/p>\n

\n\tLa Bola Negra\u00a0is the creative duo\u2019s first feature since 2017\u2019s\u00a0Holy Camp!\u00a0 The queer epic tells the story of three men in three different periods \u2014 1932, 1937 and 2017 \u2014 connected by the last works of the Spanish poet Federico Garc\u00eda Lorca.<\/p>\n

\n\tElastica will release the film in Spain in October, with co-producer Le Pacte handling the theatrical release in France.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\n\tNetflix has yet to officially confirm the deal. The film\u2019s Spanish producers, Movistar Plus, told The Hollywood Reporter negotiations were still ongoing.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe Black Ball premiered to a rapturous reception in Cannes this week, and a 20-minute standing ovation, the longest of the fest. Critics were similarly enthusiastic.
