There are four cash payments and one which is paid directly to energy suppliers, all worth up to \u00a3524.75 in additional support.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">It\u2019s important to be aware that most of these payments will not be issued until November at the earliest, but could be something to factor in now when working out household budgets nearer to Autumn &#8211; especially as <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/fuel-bills\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"energy billsLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">energy bills<\/a> typically increase significantly over the colder months due to higher usage.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \"><a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/pension-age-winter-heating-payment\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"Pension Age Winter Fuel PaymentLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Pension Age Winter Fuel Payment<\/a> has now replaced the Winter Fuel Payment for all Scots pensioners. Those above the threshold will need to pay the money back either through PAYE or a Self Assessment tax return, however, an option to opt-out of the payment has also been announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Pensioners must opt out of the Winter Fuel Payment before September 15 &#8211; full details on GOV.UK <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/winter-fuel-payment\/report-change-circumstances\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"here.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Shortly after the announcement, the Scottish Government confirmed it will also follow the policy change for all pensioners born before September 22, 1959.<\/p>\n<p>Financial help for pensioner households<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Financial help on the way before March 31, 2026 includes:<\/p>\n<p>Winter Heating Payment (\u00a359.75) &#8211; cash payment issued by the Scottish GovernmentPension Age Winter Heating Payment (\u00a3205 &#8211; \u00a3305) &#8211; cash payment issued by the Scottish GovernmentWinter Fuel Payment (\u00a3100 &#8211; \u00a3300) &#8211; cash payments issued by DWP to pensioners in England and Wales onlyWarm Home Discount (\u00a3150) &#8211; paid directly from DWP to energy providers and usually added as credit to customer\u2019s electricity accountDWP Christmas Bonus (\u00a310) &#8211; issued by DWP<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Someone aged between 66 and 79, living in Scotland, could potentially receive \u00a3273.15 from the three cash payments before the end of March 2026. However, most of these will be issued before the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">This is made up of:<\/p>\n<p>\u00a3203.40 from the Pension Age Winter Heating Payment, due to be issued on November 30\u00a359.75 from the Winter Heating Payment\u00a310 DWP Christmas Bonus<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Someone over 80, living in Scotland, could potentially receive \u00a3374.86 from the three cash payments before the end of March 2026. Find out more on the dedicated pages on MYGOV.SCOT <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mygov.scot\/pension-age-winter-heating-payment\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"here.Link opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Pension Age Winter Heating Payment &#8211; between\u00a3203.40 &#8211; \u00a3305.10<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Eligible people over State Pension age living in Scotland will automatically receive a one-off heating payment of up to \u00a3305.10 from November.<\/p>\n<p>Those eligible aged between 66 and 79 will be paid \u00a3203.40Those eligible aged 80 and over will be paid \u00a3305.10<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">To be eligible for the 2025 payment, you must have been born before September 22, 1959.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">During the qualifying week &#8211; September 15-21 &#8211; you must also:<\/p>\n<p>live in Scotland, or an eligible country abroadWinter Fuel Payments &#8211; between \u00a3200 and \u00a3300 (not Scotland)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that the 2025\/26 Winter Fuel Payment will be issued to everyone born before September 22, 1959.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Payments of \u00a3200 will be issued automatically to those aged between 66 and 79, while those aged 80 or over will receive \u00a3300. Nobody needs to claim the payment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Pensioners also need to have an annual income of under \u00a335,000 to qualify for the payment this winter. Details of an option to opt out of the payments will be announced in due course.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Full details on how much people will receive from DWP &#8211; depending on their household age and living arrangements can be found on GOV.UK <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/winter-fuel-payment\/how-much-youll-get\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Warm Home Discount &#8211; \u00a3150 paid to energy provider<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The Warm Home Discount Scheme for winter 2025 to 2026 usually opens in October and will give people on certain benefits \u00a3150 off their electricity bill.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">The money is paid directly by the DWP to energy suppliers between October and March. Eligible households may also be able to get the discount off their gas bill instead &#8211; if their supplier provides them with both gas and electricity, just contact them once the scheme opens to find out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">If you\u2019re a credit customer the \u00a3150 will be added to your electricity account and if you\u2019re on Pay As You Go or Prepayment, you\u2019ll be sent a voucher that you can use to top-up your meter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">Eligibility rules are changing this year to provide the support to more households &#8211; you can read about this <a class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/lifestyle\/money\/warm-home-discount-scheme-expansion-34742496\" target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"hereLink opens in a new tab.\" tabindex=\"0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \">We will update this article with details for this winter as soon as they are published.
