‘Exciting times ahead’ for village pub which closed its doors around a year ago\"The<\/p>\n

A “much-loved” community pub <\/a>is set to reopen after a long-awaited makeover as plans have emerged.<\/p>\n

The Bell in Smalley, near Heanor<\/a>, closed around a year ago in May 2025, with the building put up for sale at a guide price of \u00a3600,000.<\/p>\n

Its new owners are now planning an extensive refurbishment of the venue, both indoors and outdoors, including the introduction of a food <\/a>kiosk.<\/p>\n

According to a planning application, works will include the removal of “redundant” outbuildings in the garden area and the construction of a covered seating area to the rear of the pub “to enable users to enjoy the garden area year round with the potential to open this up in the summer months”.<\/p>\n

As part of the extension, a food kiosk and toilet facility have been proposed so food can be prepared and served outside.<\/p>\n

The concrete stairs on the side of the pub would also be replaced with a “more aesthetically pleasing” metal staircase.<\/p>\n

Once the pub reopens, it is set to create 24 new jobs – eight full-time roles, 12 part-time positions and four flexible roles for peak periods and events.<\/p>\n

Developers believe the renovation of the pub would “rejuvenate” the village, and, according to Smalley Community Group, renovation works to the Bell Inn are due to begin this June.<\/p>\n

“The plans look absolutely spectacular and promise to breathe new life into an important part of the village,” a spokesperson for the group. “There is already a real sense of excitement surrounding the project, and many people will be looking forward to seeing the transformation begin over the coming months.<\/p>\n

“We are also very much looking forward to welcoming John and his fellow directors to Smalley and wish them every success with this exciting new venture.<\/p>\n
