Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from this week\u2019s Charles Schwab Challenge, with the PGA Tour confirming his exit late on Sunday night, just hours after he secured a tie for 14th at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson.<\/p>\n

The five-time major champion enjoyed a solid week at TPC Craig Ranch, posting rounds of 63, 69, 66 and 68 to finish at 18-under par.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After an explosive opening round with a hot old new putter<\/a>, Koepka briefly featured in early contention before a second-round setback saw him drift into the chasing pack, where he remained for the rest of the week.<\/p>\n

Koepka<\/a>‘s tied-14th finish bumps him up six spots to 63rd in the season-long FedEx Cup standings, but he remains just outside the top 100 in the Official World Golf Rankings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Koepka, who returned to the PGA Tour <\/a>earlier this year via a Returning Membership program following a four-year spell on LIV Golf, has enjoyed a steady run of form since rejoining, recording six top-20 finishes in 11 starts.<\/p>\n

Having been on the road for three consecutive weeks, the 36-year-old American has now opted to step away from the field at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas, as players begin managing their schedules ahead of a packed summer stretch.<\/p>\n

No official reason has been given for Koepka\u2019s withdrawal. However, it is widely understood the former world number one is simply taking a planned period of rest after three consecutive weeks of competition.<\/p>\n

At the elite level, the world\u2019s best players typically avoid stretches longer than three to four consecutive events in order to manage fatigue and reduce the risk of burnout.<\/p>\n

The Charles Schwab Challenge<\/a> remains one of the PGA Tour\u2019s most historic stops, staged at the classic par-70 Colonial Country Club.<\/p>\n

There is a total purse of $9.9 million on the line, with $1.78 million going to the winner alongside 500 FedExCup points.<\/p>\n

Koepka\u2019s withdrawal comes as many of the game’s best players look to recharge and rest ahead of next month’s U.S. Open at Shinnecock Hills, where he famously claimed victory in 2018. That triumph remains one of his standout major performances, adding to his 2017 win at Erin Hills and cementing his status as a two-time U.S. Open champion.<\/p>\n

Koepka is a five-time major champion overall, with three PGA Championship titles in 2018, 2019 and 2023.<\/p>\n

Looking ahead, Koepka is not eligible for next week\u2019s Signature Event at the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village, since he is not in either the Aon Swing 5 or Aon Next 10 positions, but he is scheduled to return at the RBC Canadian Open at TPC Toronto from 11\u201314 June, just a week before the U.S. Open.<\/p>\n

The PGA Tour has confirmed Koepka\u2019s withdrawal from the Charles Schwab Challenge reduces the field at Colonial to 132 players.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Denny McCarthy and David Ford have also pulled out, with Jimmy Stanger and Brice Garnett stepping in as replacements.<\/p>\n

Scottie Scheffler and Jordan Spieth were not entered into this week\u2019s event, having already opted to sit out their home tournament.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wyndham Clark, who fired a stunning 60 to land his fourth career PGA Tour at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Sunday, is in the field though.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Ben Griffin is also back to defend his title.<\/p>\n

Other notables in the field include Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, Bob MacIntyre and Hideki Matsuyama.<\/p>\n
