{"id":603796,"date":"2026-05-25T23:49:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T23:49:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/603796\/"},"modified":"2026-05-25T23:49:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T23:49:13","slug":"carrick-makes-decision-on-mason-mount-future-after-man-utd-contract-clause-activated","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/603796\/","title":{"rendered":"Carrick makes decision on Mason Mount future after Man Utd contract clause activated"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Michael Carrick believes Mason Mount still has a key role to play for Manchester United after Champions League qualification activated a clause in the playmaker\u2019s contract to make him \u201cunsellable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Mount joined United from Chelsea for \u00a355m in the summer of 2023 and has endured an injury-hit three seasons at Old Trafford which has seen him make only 72 appearances for the Red Devils.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s registered just seven goals and two assists in that time and has featured for 203 minutes across seven appearances under Carrick.<\/p>\n<p>Mount\u2019s injury record and lack of game time has led to suggestions he could be sold this summer with two years left to run on his deal, though that could prove difficult after a clause in his contract \u2013 along with those of many of his teammates \u2013 will see his salary rise by 25 per cent after they qualified for the Champions League.<\/p>\n<p>According to Capology, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.football365.com\/tag\/mason-mount\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Mount<\/a> earned \u00a3150,000 per week this season, so looks set to land \u00a3187,500 per week next term; a wage which would surely put off many suitors should United look to sell him.<\/p>\n<p>But Carrick is of a mind to keep the Chelsea academy graduate in any case, <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/7300363\/2026\/05\/24\/inside-michael-carrick-manchester-united-job\/?source=emp_shared_article&amp;unlocked_article_code=1.k1A.kveE.5ofUuHDYdOz1\" target=\"_blank\">according to The Athletic<\/a>, who claim the new permanent boss believes Mount\u2019s \u2018positional flexibility\u2019 will be \u2018beneficial to his squad heading into a campaign of four competitions\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>The report adds:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Mount started in deep midfield at Sunderland and Brighton &amp; Hove Albion in Casemiro\u2019s absence, playing superbly at the Amex Stadium today (Sunday), but recruiting a No 6 (or two), is obviously United\u2019s top priority in the summer market.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Mount an \u2018unsellable\u2019 asset<\/p>\n<p>Carrick\u2019s stance is good news for United in the eyes of former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness, who <a rel=\"noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.footballinsider247.com\/mason-mount-is-unsellable-this-summer-after-man-united-clause-activated\/\" target=\"_blank\">told Football Insider<\/a> that Mount\u2019s wage increase (he claims he\u2019s set to earn \u00a3250,000 per week) would make the Englishman \u201cunsellable\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThis would have been a mistake in the contract that was done when Mount was bought.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd certainly, if they had a clause in there that said if the Champions League was secured, then he would go up to \u00a3250,000 a week, then that makes Mount almost unsellable given his performances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s certainly shown some glimmers of coming back, but nowhere near the Mason Mount that we saw who was an exciting player at Chelsea.
