\n Scottish Ministers ‘set to refuse’ controversial 18-hole golf course plans<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \n ‘Classic’ Glasgow golf club chips away at ‘stuffy’ image<\/a>\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cI can\u2019t even go to the shop for a pint of milk without somebody saying something,\u201d Mr Montgomery said.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n Mr McKinney added: \u201cIf you\u2019re a serious golfer, it\u2019s a practice place. If you\u2019re just starting out, it\u2019s ideal.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n \u201cIf you\u2019re a young person, a wean or an older person who can\u2019t go and join a club, you can come down here and keep your golf game going.\u201d\n<\/p>\n \n However, the council\u2019s development plan states the course, at Simshill Road, is \u201cno longer operational\u201d and an area could be used for around 150 homes. It is listed as a long-term project which could be delivered in years seven to 10 of the 10-year plan.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n \n Cllr John Carson, Labour, who represents the Linn ward, said the golf course is \u201ca much missed amenity for residents since its closure by the council due to lack of funds\u201d.\n<\/p>\n \n \n He acknowledged that building more houses \u201chas to be a priority\u201d for Glasgow, but added sport and leisure \u201cmust also be a priority for the health and wellbeing of residents\u201d.\n<\/p>\n \n Cllr Carson said it was \u201cincredibly frustrating\u201d that while efforts to bring the course back into community use were ongoing, the council was \u201clooking to build houses on the site and slipped the proposal into the city development plan\u201d.\n<\/p>\n \n He encouraged the community to have their say when the 12-week consultation process gets underway.\n<\/p>\n \n Mr McKinney said the Castlemilk community has come together to breathe new life into the course. \u201cI didn\u2019t think that existed any more,\u201d he said.\n<\/p>\n \n Mr Montgomery added: \u201cThere\u2019s people I\u2019ve seen down here in the last eight weeks that I\u2019ve not seen since that club was open.\u201d\n<\/p>\nSteven McKinney pictured at Linn Park Golf Club (Image: Colin Mearns)\n<\/p>\n
