DC Studios co-head Peter Safran is backing Milly Alcock as her Supergirl comments continue to draw backlash<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The latest comes from Variety\u2019s new profile on Alcock, where the actress again addressed online criticism and fan reaction<\/a>. <\/p>\n

The article also reveals Safran personally reached out to Alcock after the previous flare-up over her Vanity Fair comments<\/a>, where she talked about people having a \u201cweird ownership of women\u2019s bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI called her and just said, \u2018You\u2019re doing great! You\u2019re handling it beautifully. You\u2019re never going to make everybody happy. Just be true to yourself,\u2019\u201d Safran said. \u201cAnd I really do think she\u2019s handling it well. I would also recommend, don\u2019t wallow in it. It never makes you feel good.\u201d<\/p>\n

The comments make it clear DC Studios is aware of the backlash and is standing behind Alcock.<\/p>\n

For Supergirl, this is becoming more than just an actress giving interviews. Safran\u2019s support now puts the studio\u2019s leadership directly behind the messaging, even as the movie\u2019s PR campaign keeps circling back to trolls, backlash, and fan behavior<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Alcock first drew attention during her Vanity Fair interview, where she said her experience on House of the Dragon taught her that \u201csimply existing as a woman in that space is something that people comment on.\u201d<\/p>\n

She added, \u201cWe have become very comfortable having this weird ownership of women\u2019s bodies.\u201d<\/p>\n

The remarks sparked a backlash from fans who felt Alcock and the Supergirl campaign were already framing criticism of the movie as toxic before release.<\/p>\n

Alcock then doubled down in the Variety profile, saying she didn\u2019t even say \u201cmen,\u201d only \u201cpeople,\u201d and argued the angry reaction proved her point.<\/p>\n

Christian Comments Add More Fuel<\/p>\n

The Variety article also included Alcock\u2019s comments about some critics having faceless accounts, burner profiles, or names like \u201cDad of four, Christian,\u201d which she called \u201chilarious.\u201d<\/a><\/p>\n

The New York Post later picked up on the remarks with the headline, \u201c\u2018Supergirl\u2019 actress mocks critics, says a lot of them are Christian dads.\u201d<\/p>\n

Alcock also said, \u201cWhose opinion do you really care about? If you\u2019re p-ssing the right kind of people off, you\u2019re doing OK.\u201d<\/p>\n

For a movie already facing box office questions, mocking any group of potential viewers is a risky move. It may play well with entertainment media, but it does not help sell tickets to skeptical fans.<\/p>\n

Safran Says Alcock Is Exactly What DC Wanted<\/p>\n

Safran also praised Alcock\u2019s take on Kara Zor-El throughout the Variety piece.<\/p>\n

He described this version of Supergirl as \u201csuper tough\u201d and said Kara has \u201cbeen through some sh-t,\u201d after watching Krypton die and losing everyone she loved, including her parents.<\/p>\n

Safran also said Alcock\u2019s audition moved the room.<\/p>\n

\u201cEverybody had tears in their eyes,\u201d he said. \u201cShe wears her heart on her sleeve; she brings so much emotion to the role. We all looked at each other and said, \u2018This is absolutely perfect. She\u2019s exactly what we want.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

He also recalled DC executive Chantal Nong crying when Alcock first appeared in the Supergirl costume for her cameo in Superman.<\/p>\n

\u201cChantal full-on ugly cried,\u201d Safran said. \u201cIt was a culmination of so much hard work. And then to see somebody who so perfectly embodied the character \u2014 when Milly walked out, we all felt it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Safran also previously said Supergirl is cool and original<\/a>. The film releases on June 26th.<\/p>\n
