{"id":60477,"date":"2025-08-12T01:24:11","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T01:24:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/60477\/"},"modified":"2025-08-12T01:24:11","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T01:24:11","slug":"wyre-forest-leisure-centre-hundreds-at-event-for-ash-roberts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/60477\/","title":{"rendered":"Wyre Forest Leisure Centre hundreds at event for Ash Roberts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n  Colleagues at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre\u00a0hosted\u00a0&#8220;National Play Day&#8221;\u00a0in honour of their friend and colleague Ash Roberts, who died in June aged 51.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Almost \u00a3850 was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/page\/sarah-davies-1224\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">raised<\/a> from the event for\u00a0The Donkey Sanctuary, which was a charity close to Ash&#8217;s heart.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Sarah Davies, who organised the event with help from\u00a0Tracey Lloyd, Holly Cashmore, Amy Blackadder, Jenny Evans and Adam Hope, said: &#8220;I was\u00a0so pleased with the turnout of the event.\u00a0I had to pinch myself a few times.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I couldn\u2019t have done without the support of my work team. It was a beautiful day, the sun was shining and everybody was so happy.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;There were lots of people talking about lovely Ash and saying what a good atmosphere it was. I only had six weeks to plan, but I really think it went well.\u00a0Thank you to everyone who made the effort to donate and visit us.&#8221;\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ash motivated hundreds of people at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre, teaching body pump, combat and cycling classes each week.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Mr Roberts, from Kidderminster, also worked as a teaching assistant at Burlish Park Primary School, teaching PE, and has\u00a0been described as an &#8220;inspiring man&#8221;.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ahead of the event, colleagues said: &#8220;Ash was always such an uplifting man and would try and encourage everyone.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;I can&#8217;t believe we won&#8217;t see him again.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The &#8220;National Play Day&#8221; event took place on August 6 with free bouncy castles, an adults and children&#8217;s raffle, face painting, glitter tattoos, penalty shootout, live music and more.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The event in memory of Ash is taking place on Wednesday (August 6) from 12pm until 3pm with all money raised going to charity.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  There will be free bouncy castles, an adults and children&#8217;s raffle with great prizes donated by local businesses including \u00a3100 cash, face painting, glitter tattoos, penalty shootout, live music from Sarah Wills who reached judges houses on X Factor and West Mercia Police will have a stand where children can dress up and sit in a police car.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  The event is free entry and the first 50 children will receive a goodie bag.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  One visitor at the event said: &#8220;It was an amazing day and the weather was beautiful.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Another visitor said: &#8220;We all feel so humbled with how the whole community came together.&#8221;\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Another visitor added: &#8220;The cakes were just amazing.&#8221;\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Davies has also thanked Louise Gould, Liz Elt, Vanessa Babbington and Rachel Green for helping to set up and run stalls on the day.\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Sarah Wills, who reached\u00a0judges houses on X Factor, was also singing her heart out whilst West Mercia Police and Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service also attended and were &#8220;fantastic&#8221; with the children.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Ms Davies added: &#8220;I also want to say a big thank you to Chris Foxall from Cupids Wedding Designs &amp; Events for making a beautiful display and balloon arch free of charge.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  &#8220;Tools Direct, Resilient Group, those who donated lots of hair and\u00a0beauty vouchers, Treats by Chance and all the lovely traders.&#8221;\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>\n  Visit the Just Giving page here\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/page\/sarah-davies-1224?utm_medium=FR&amp;utm_source=CL\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">www.justgiving.com\/page\/sarah-davies-1224<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Colleagues at Wyre Forest Leisure Centre\u00a0hosted\u00a0&#8220;National Play Day&#8221;\u00a0in honour of their friend and colleague Ash Roberts, who died&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":60478,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[46],"tags":[6647,102,56,54,55],"class_list":{"0":"post-60477","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-fitness","8":"tag-fitness","9":"tag-health","10":"tag-uk","11":"tag-united-kingdom","12":"tag-unitedkingdom"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/60477","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=60477"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/60477\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/60478"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=60477"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=60477"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=60477"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
