{"id":604881,"date":"2026-05-26T14:21:11","date_gmt":"2026-05-26T14:21:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/604881\/"},"modified":"2026-05-26T14:21:11","modified_gmt":"2026-05-26T14:21:11","slug":"extreme-heat-impacting-bristols-rubbish-collections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/604881\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Extreme heat&#8217; impacting Bristol&#8217;s rubbish collections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Bristol Waste is telling residents to bear with them during the heatwave<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Black bins and recycling containers on a pavement in Bedminster\" loading=\"eager\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/2_Black-bins-and-recycling-containers-on-a-pavement-in-Bedminster.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Black bins and recycling containers on a pavement in Bedminster\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Black bins and recycling containers on a pavement in Bedminster(Image: Alex Seabrook)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The hot weather is already impacting this week\u2019s recycling collections across Bristol, with Bristol Waste bosses warning that crews may not be able to get around to collect everyone\u2019s cardboard and recycling this week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The council-owned firm said that the \u2018extreme heat\u2019 was impacting the mechanism in the recycling vehicles that process plastic and cardboard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Crews are starting earlier &#8211; at 5am instead of 6am &#8211; to get ahead of the rapidly rising temperatures in the mornings, but collections on Bank Holiday Monday were affected by the heat, and more are expected to be missed as the week continues.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In a statement last night, Monday, May 25, Bristol Waste said: \u201cThe extreme heat has affected some of our recycling collections, and unfortunately we\u2019ve been unable to collect all plastic and cardboard.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cThis is because high temperatures can impact the mechanism in our vehicles that processes these materials. We\u2019re working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cIf your plastic and cardboard haven\u2019t been collected by 6pm today, please bring them back in and put them out again on your next scheduled collection day.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">\u201cTo help keep everyone safe in the heat, our crews will be starting earlier tomorrow, from 5am.
