\n Davey, 28, and Marshall, 23, are set to meet Liverpool\u2019s David Thompson and Hull\u2019s Harry Edgecumbe in super welterweight and lightweight contests respectively on an outdoor show at Batley Bulldogs Stadium.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cWe\u2019ve both served our apprenticeships,\u201d explained George, \u201cand we\u2019re both as confident, prepared and as ready as we could be to win these contests and move on to the next stage in our boxing careers be that at national, European or Commonwealth level.\n<\/p>\n

\n “It\u2019s my fourteenth professional fight since I joined the paid ranks in 2019 but for both of us it\u2019s a leap to our first ten rounder although I\u2019ve previously had two eight rounders.\n<\/p>\n
\n “We\u2019re also aware that neither of our opponents has yet done ten rounds. My guy\u2019s a southpaw which means he leads with his right hand and uses the left for his heavier punches. I\u2019m a bit of a switch hitter and can fluctuate between the two stances. Fortunately.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cThe title fight is my ninth professional contest and I\u2019m excited about it,\u201d said Jack. \u201cIt\u2019s just three years since my debut. It\u2019s a big step-up for me as my longest bout to date was a six rounder.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Fact is, though, I\u2019ve done the hard work in training, and I\u2019m prepared for the physical and mental challenge. What we both need is massive support from York people as both George and I showcase how exhilarating boxing can be.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n George Davey goes by the moniker \u2018G-Force\u2019 and has won ten of his thirteen bouts, with two losses and a draw.\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI made my debut on a big show at Leeds Arena and then boxed at some large venues across England,\u201d said George, \u201csuch as Utilita Arena in Birmingham and Telford International Centre as well as four outings at the iconic York Hall in Bethnall Green, the sport\u2019s London home. I sold about 500 tickets for my debut fight, but Batley stadium will be the biggest stage I\u2019ve been on in Yorkshire since 2019.\n<\/p>\n

\n “Both Jack and I are now where most professional boxers are and that\u2019s in what\u2019s called \u2018small hall\u2019 boxing where the onus is on the home boxer to sell tickets.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n Jack Marshall is undefeated in eight bouts with all matches won on points. \u201cIt\u2019s the bane of a boxer\u2019s life, frankly, this business of selling tickets. You don\u2019t get thousands of people at our venues and to an extent each of the dozen or so professionals in York is chasing the same group of potential attendees. We\u2019re all friends of course as professional fighters.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Expenses need to be paid from tickets sold and what\u2019s left is what the home professional receives. One advantage is selling tickets helps a boxer build a fanbase and supporters are the people who shout for you, and you\u2019re buoyed up by their enthusiasm which helps you get the win.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Our June bouts are for official titles this time so we\u2019ll be getting a proper purse which makes it easier.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
\n \u201cI agree the sport can be frustrating,\u201d added George. \u201cI haven\u2019t competed in over a year. Title fights have come and gone as one opponent gets injured in training and another decides to pull out or the show gets cancelled.\n<\/p>\n

\n “You need a resilient mindset or you\u2019d give up. Boxing has its politics and finance underpins everything in sport as in life. But on the night, well there\u2019s nothing better. If you wonder why we do it, there\u2019s your answer.\u201d\n<\/p>\n
