\u201cOur LGBTQ+ fans have been such a core fanbase for so many years,\u201d Perrie Edwards<\/a> tells Attitude. The 32-year-old Geordie rose to fame after girl group Little Mix<\/a> won the X Factor in 2011, alongside former band members Jade Thirlwall<\/a>, Leigh-Anne Pinnock<\/a> and Jesy Nelson<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After 11 years of making music together, the group confirmed they were taking a hiatus in 2022 to focus on their solo careers, following Nelson\u2019s early departure in 2020. All three remaining members have gone on to pursue successful solo careers, continuing to embrace the LGBTQ+ community, as well as supporting one another.<\/p>\n

Edwards, now a mother of two, released her debut solo album titled Perrie in September 2025, reaching Number 3 on the Official UK Albums Chart. She tells Attitude there was one single from the fan edition of her album that featured as a demo that she can\u2019t wait to drop. \u2018Passenger Princess\u2019 is scheduled to be released on 29 May, just two days before her Sunday set at Mighty Hoopla<\/a> 2026 on 31 May.<\/p>\n

Speaking exclusively to Attitude ahead of \u2018Passenger Princess\u2019\u2019s live debut, Edwards confirms the Little Mix trio are in talks of a reunion, reminisces on the time she and the group rebelled against Dubai\u2019s anti-LGBTQ+ views and thought they were going to be arrested<\/a>, and shares her thoughts on bringing up children in the current political climate: \u201cYou can be anything you want to be, love who you want to love.\u201d<\/p>\n

Attitude: What is your fondest Pride memory?<\/p>\n

Perrie Edwards: Oh gosh\u2026 you know what, for me, I think when we were in the group, singing \u2018Secret Love Song\u2019 was always such a moment. When everyone sings it back and you can see everyone in the crowd just feeling it, in their feelings \u2013 I just love that. So probably every time we sang \u2018Secret Love Song\u2019.<\/p>\n

Jade previously spoke about the group flying the Pride flag in Dubai in 2019. She mentioned you were quite scared about possibly being arrested due to the country\u2019s stance on LGBTQ+ rights. What do you recall about that?<\/p>\n

I do remember. I remember our team stressing and everything like that. At the end of the day we did it because we wanted to do it, and it means so much to our fans. When we got to the airport, I think it was our team at the time, were scared we were going to get pulled at the airport. And we were like, \u201cOh well, let them try.\u201d<\/p>\n

What did that moment mean to you, showing that kind of defiance for your LGBTQ+ fans?<\/p>\n

It means everything to us. Our LGBTQ+ fans have been such a core fanbase for so many years, and they\u2019ve been so supportive and so incredible. It\u2019s a two-way street \u2013 they go above and beyond for us and we feel the same. It was a moment that meant so much to so many people at the time. And if that was going to get us in trouble, then so be it. We didn\u2019t really care about that. We do everything for our fans and for the people that support us.<\/p>\n

With the Pussycat Dolls having a reunion, do you think Little Mix would ever reunite?<\/p>\n

Oh, 100 per cent. I\u2019m ready and raring. We always message each other and are bantering like, \u201cSo how long until we do a reunion? Are we going to do one? Where is it?\u201d I\u2019m like, just give me a ballpark time. Do you know what I mean? Just let me know when.<\/p>\n

Would it be as a three or a four?<\/p>\n

A three. Definitely a three.<\/p>\n

What keeps bringing you back to the LGBTQ+ festival circuit, particularly Mighty Hoopla?<\/p>\n

I just love the vibes. The vibes are unmatched. It\u2019s epic, it\u2019s electric, it\u2019s fun, it\u2019s camp, it\u2019s fabulous, it\u2019s everything you could want. And it\u2019s so fun as a performer, getting on stage and performing, but also being at the festival and enjoying it. I just hope it\u2019s not too rammed or chaotic work-wise so I can actually enjoy myself.<\/p>\n

What can fans expect from your Hoopla set, a single perhaps?<\/p>\n

Oh yes, I\u2019m going to be doing \u2018Passenger Princess\u2019. And \u2018Passenger Princess\u2019 was on the fan edition of my album as a demo, but not many people have heard it. So I think the hardcore fans that tried to help me in the chart position bought that version. But yeah, it\u2019s like a completely different version now. It\u2019s all polished. I\u2019ve re-recorded it, changed the production. So it\u2019s no longer a demo anymore, and I\u2019m just excited to perform it live. I\u2019m gonna have my band. It\u2019s just gonna be good, feel-good vibes.<\/p>\n

Will Hoopla be its first live performance?<\/p>\n

Yes, it will! \u2018Passenger Princess\u2019 losing its virginity at Mighty Hoopla!<\/p>\n

What is \u2018Passenger Princes\u2019 about?<\/p>\n

I feel like in this world that we\u2019re living in we have to be everything all the time, and it\u2019s kind of draining. And listen, I love being independent, I love having my own shit, I love doing everything for myself, being strong and a powerful woman and, I can be a wifey, I can be a mother, I can birth children, I can run a business, I can have a career, I can do all these things, but you know, sometimes I can\u2019t be fucked. Sometimes I just want to do nothing and be like, \u201cAlex, can you just help me? Look after me, you know?\u201d And I think that is okay, and I think both things can coexist. I can be an independent badass woman, but I can also be looked after too.<\/p>\n

As a mother of two young children, how does the current political climate make you feel about their formative years, discovering who they are?<\/p>\n

I mean, it is scary, obviously. I don\u2019t think when you bring children into the world, when it\u2019s not all sunshine and rainbows all the time, it is scary. There\u2019s a lot to think about. It\u2019s scary when they\u2019re going to schools. It\u2019s scary when they\u2019re being led in a direction that\u2019s almost out of your hands as well \u2013 when they go into the system, when they go to school, when they\u2019re part of all this stuff. It\u2019s like they\u2019re teaching my children things that I wouldn\u2019t necessarily teach at home. So it\u2019s a lot, I think, when you have kids, and I do think it\u2019s natural to worry about what they\u2019re hearing and what people are saying to them and how. You know, I just want them to be themselves, make their own decisions, be happy in their own skin, be confident, be fearless \u2013 like all those things. I teach my little boy now: \u201cYou can be anything you want to be, love who you want to love, do what you want to do.\u201d That\u2019s important to me.<\/p>\n

What was your first experience like at a gay bar?<\/p>\n

We went for a night out, and I remember we were pole dancing\u2026 what shoes was I wearing? It was either Heaven or Freedom, you know? Freedom. It was Freedom. It was Freedom in the basement, had the time of my life. Just spent the whole night dancing. My shoes were fucking killing me.<\/p>\n
