\n\tA24<\/a> has unveiled the first trailer for\u00a0Primetime<\/a>, its forthcoming drama starring Robert Pattinson<\/a>, which chronicles the origins of Chris Hansen<\/a>\u2018s\u00a0To Catch a Predator<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn 2024, we were first to report<\/a> on\u00a0Primetime, a film from\u00a0Ren Faire\u2018s Lance Oppenheim<\/a>, which at the time hadn\u2019t confirmed Hansen as the subject of the story, issuing a logline about \u201ca journalist who takes on an underworld of crime and changes television forever.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tTo Catch a Predator\u00a0is of course the true-crime program put on as part of\u00a0Dateline NBC, which chronicled Hansen\u2019s efforts to out suspected child predators, with the help of law enforcement and a team of decoys pretending to be minors online.<\/p>\n

\n\tSet up as a split screen, the trailer hints at Hansen\u2019s early efforts with the show, as Pattinson issues dialogue that will ring familiar to anyone who\u2019s seen\u00a0To Catch a Predator\u00a0\u2014 questions Hansen would prod his subjects with after catching them on camera, in an alleged attempt to meet in person with a child.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cWhat would have happened if I wasn\u2019t here? You see how this looks, right?\u201d Hansen asks. \u201cAt the end of the day, a man must be held accountable for the decisions that he makes. Would you agree?\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tPattinson\u2019s TV host later asks, \u201cDo you watch television? Well, there\u2019s something you should know. I\u2019m Chris Hansen with\u00a0Dateline NBC\u00a0\u2014 and you\u2019re able to be a part of television history.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWhile\u00a0Primetime\u2018s point of view on Hansen and his program isn\u2019t entirely clear from the teaser, it wouldn\u2019t be surprising to see the film align with that of\u00a0Predators, an acclaimed 2025 documentary from David Osit, which examined the dubious ethics behind the production of\u00a0To Catch a Predator. The teaser seems to suggest that the film will be in the vein of Dan Gilroy\u2019s 2014 thriller\u00a0Nightcrawler, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as a shady, ambulance-chasing L.A. stringer.<\/p>\n

\n\tAlso starring Merritt Wever, Skyler Gisondo and Phoebe Bridgers,\u00a0Primetime\u00a0will hit theaters this fall, though the film has not yet gotten an official release date. Oppenheim directed from a script by Ajon Singh, with Brian Kavanaugh-Jones, Fred Berger, Pattinson, Brighton McCloskey, Lars Knudsen and Tyler Campellone producing.<\/p>\n
