A man arrested in connection with the death of a 34-year-old man on Barmouth beach has been released on bail. Emergency services were called to reports of a \u201cman in the water\u201d<\/a> at the Gwynedd<\/a> resort shortly after 3pm on Monday, May 25.<\/p>\n

North Wales Police<\/a> (NWP) said a murder investigation was launched into the “sudden death”. The force today said inquiries were continuing<\/p>\n

A 24-year-old man from the Birmingham area has since been released on bail whilst he helps officers with the investigation, codenamed “Operation Mizen”.<\/p>\n

North Wales Police said it will be maintaining its increased police presence in the Barmouth area for reassurance purposes.<\/p>\n

Senior investigating officer Detective Superintentdent Chris Bell said there had been an \u201coverwhelming response\u201d from the public following an appeal for information.<\/p>\n

Det Sup Bell said: \u201cI would like to thank all members of the public who assisted the man on the beach on Monday, and to everybody who has contacted us since.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have received an overwhelming response from the public, which is incredibly helpful to our enquiries.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am continuing to urge anybody with who was at Barmouth<\/a> beach on Monday, 25 May, and witnessed the incident, and hasn\u2019t already spoken to police, to get in touch.<\/p>\n

\u201cI am also re-appealing to anybody who was on the beach between 2pm and 4pm who took any photos and videos to send them to us as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are interested in all photos or videos taken on any part of the beach during the afternoon. Any image could be relevant to our investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

The casualty\u2019s family are being supported by specialist officers. Det Sup Bell added: \u201cMy thoughts remain with the man\u2019s family at this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Anybody who was at Barmouth beach and witnessed the incident, or has any photos or footage of the beach, is urged to upload them to NWP\u2019s major incident police portal here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
