{"id":608656,"date":"2026-05-28T15:08:09","date_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:08:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/608656\/"},"modified":"2026-05-28T15:08:09","modified_gmt":"2026-05-28T15:08:09","slug":"gus-scott-morriss-oldham-athletic-sign-southend-united-wing-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/608656\/","title":{"rendered":"Gus Scott-Morriss: Oldham Athletic sign Southend United wing-back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Oldham Athletic have signed Southend United wing-back Gus Scott-Morriss on a two-year deal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 29-year-old scored 45 goals in 162 National League appearances for the Shrimpers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">He netted the winning penalty as Southend beat Wealdstone in the FA Trophy final at Wembley earlier this month in his final match for the Roots Hall side.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I&#8217;ll bring lots of energy, hopefully lots of output and I&#8217;ll try to get a few goals and assists &#8211; but I&#8217;m a team player, I want to win,&#8221; Scott-Morriss <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oldhamathletic.co.uk\/news\/2026\/may\/28\/scott-morriss-signs-for-latics\/\" class=\"ssrcss-1fqyhkk-InlineLink e1kn3p7n0\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">told the League Two club&#8217;s website., external<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;We want to get out of this division, the gaffer [Micky Mellon] made it clear to me that is what we want to do.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Oldham finished 10th, 10 points adrift of the play-off positions, in 2025-26, their first season back in the Football League after three years in the National League.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Scott-Morriss&#8217; deal has the option of a further year, although Oldham have not revealed whether it is in their favour of that of the player.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Oldham Athletic have signed Southend United wing-back Gus Scott-Morriss on a two-year deal.
