A flight declared a high level emergency after a passenger allegedly attempted to break into the cockpit.<\/p>\n
The United Airlines jet was bound for Minneapolis<\/a> from Chicago<\/a> when a man attempted to take control of the plane.<\/p>\n He was allegedly speaking Russian as he attempted to force his way onto the flight deck of the Boeing 737.<\/p>\n The flight used squawk code 7500 \u2013 the internationally recognised number to signal a hijacking.<\/p>\n It diverted to another airport and landed safely in Madison, Wisconsin, with no further threat reported.<\/p>\n According to reports, the passenger was restrained and arrested in handcuffs after the plane finally touched down.<\/p>\n Cockpit security has been greatly ramped up since the September 11 attacks in 2001.<\/p>\n \t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tNeighbours ‘heard screams and shouts’ in weeks before man, woman and child fell to deaths<\/a><\/p>\n \t\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\tUK \tNew details revealed at inquest after three sisters pulled from sea off Brighton<\/a><\/p>\n \tNew footage shows sofa narrowly missing shoppers after boy threw it from Westfield balcony<\/a><\/p>\n \tRaise the Colours founder charged with murder of bar owner<\/a><\/p>\n In October 2023, an off-duty pilot seized control of a plane and attempted to cut off its engines.<\/p>\n He was eventually restrained and the crew were able to prevent a crash, before diverting to Portland airport in Oregon.<\/p>\n Joseph David Emerson was later charged with 83 counts of attempted murder, 83 counts of reckless endangerment and 1 count of endangering an aircraft.<\/p>\n Metro has contacted United Airlines for comment.<\/p>\n Got a story?
