A new single player action game inspired by a classic Korean novel has been announced for the PS5.<\/p>\n

Woochi the Wayfarer<\/a> is being published by Nexon and developed by its subsidiary LoreVault. It\u2019s described as a fantasy action adventure, much like the folktale it\u2019s based on.<\/p>\n

The Tale of Chon Uch\u2019i<\/a> depicts the story of a real-life Taoist scholar who lived during the mid-Joseon period (~1550 AD). However, in the story he possesses magical powers, which we\u2019d very much expect to be present in the game.<\/p>\n

Nexon boss Park Yong-hyun said in a chuffed press release:<\/p>\n

\u201cWoochi the Wayfarer will provide a fresh and unique play experience that is based on traditional Korean materials while also having an emotional resonance that anyone around the world can relate to. We plan to present a game that will appeal to gamers of all cultures, telling an amazing story that fully showcases Nexon Games\u2019 development capabilities and accumulated experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

The game\u2019s being built using Unreal Engine 5, and while the teaser trailer appears to be CG, it perhaps gives you a taste of what you can expect from the final product.<\/p>\n

The press release mentions that the team is currently \u201clocation hunting\u201d around Korea, where it\u2019s \u201cpersonally visiting cultural sites to recreate the Joseon era in high-quality 3D\u201d.<\/p>\n

The blurb further expands:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe single player narrative will deliver players a deeply immersive and thrilling action gameplay experience featuring magical settings along with Korean traditional monsters and music.\u201d<\/p>\n

We\u2019re expecting an intense character action game here, but we hope the combat is more Devil May Cry<\/a> than Dark Souls<\/a> \u2013 although that\u2019s a personal taste thing.<\/p>\n

There\u2019s no release date attached to the game just yet, but we really like the historical Korean setting. Are you intrigued by what you\u2019ve seen so far?<\/p>\n
