Canelo Alvarez will make his highly anticipated return to the ring on Mexican Independence Day weekend against Christian Mbilli.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old hasn’t set foot in the ring since his unanimous decision defeat to Terence Crawford<\/a> last September.<\/p>\n

Alvarez dropped his undisputed super middleweight titles in the process, but has now been handed the opportunity to regain one of his four belts against WBC champion<\/a> Mbilli.<\/p>\n

The Frenchman was elevated from interim to full world champion in January after the WBC stripped Crawford for unpaid sanctioning fees. <\/p>\n

Mbilli picked up the secondary title by blowing away Poland’s Maciej Sulecki in a round last June.<\/p>\n

He was then held to a draw by Lester Martinez in a Fight of the Year contender on the Alvarez vs Crawford undercard. <\/p>\n

And will now test his skills against the face of boxing.<\/p>\n

Alvarez vs Mbilli: Date and venue <\/p>\n

Alvarez and Mbilli are set to collide on September 12<\/a> at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.<\/p>\n

The pair will headline a Ring Magazine card billed as ‘Mexico vs The World’, showcasing the country’s best talent. <\/p>\n

DAZN will be broadcasting the fight live on pay-per-view.<\/p>\n
