{"id":613360,"date":"2026-05-31T08:09:27","date_gmt":"2026-05-31T08:09:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/613360\/"},"modified":"2026-05-31T08:09:27","modified_gmt":"2026-05-31T08:09:27","slug":"welsh-club-interested-in-signing-rising-wales-star-on-loan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/613360\/","title":{"rendered":"Welsh club interested in signing rising Wales star on loan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sam Scott is seen as a future Wales international<img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"walesonline\" class=\"PremiumArticleBadge_premium-badge-image__ceBDv\" data-testid=\"premium-byline-walesonline\" src=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/assets\/walesonline\/images\/premium-byline-walesonline.svg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>10:47, 29 May 2026<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"eager\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/0_CDF_130625_CF_Wales_v_Italy_U20s_012JPG.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p aria-label=\"Sam Scott in action for Wales U20s\" class=\"ImageCaption_caption-title__ccyQU\" data-testid=\"caption-title\">Sam Scott in action for Wales U20s(Image: Chris Fairweather\/Huw Evans Agency)<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Cardiff are interested in signing former Wales U20s tighthead Sam Scott on loan from Bristol Bears.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The 20-year-old has long been regarded as a future Wales international and <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/warren-gatland\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Warren Gatland<\/a> was tempted to take Scott on the senior tour to Australia in 2024 before resisting the temptation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Tighthead prop is an area of grave concern in Wales and those involved in the Welsh Rugby Union&#8217;s high performance department want to accelerate Scott&#8217;s development.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Scott is currently contracted to Bristol and has been learning from the likes of England and Lions star Ellis Genge in training.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">JOIN OUR WALES RUGBY FACEBOOK PAGE <a aria-label=\"[object Object]Link opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Walesrugbynews\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">Latest news, analysis and much more<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">But he has found game-time hard to come by and has played much of his rugby for Dings Crusaders in National One.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">At least one other Welsh club has also tried to strike a deal to take Scott on loan but failed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">No deal is agreed but <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/cardiff\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Cardiff<\/a> are interested and Scott is likely to get more game-time in the United Rugby Championship than he&#8217;d get in the Gallagher Prem in the short term.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">This season Cardiff signed Wales U20s pair Ioan Emanuel and Ieuan Davies on loan from Bath with both players playing most of their Rygby in Super Rygbi Cymru.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">They could potentially do the same with Scott if Bears director of rugby Lam agrees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Scott is a good technical scrummager who is a dynamic carrier and got through a mountain of defensive work in Wales U20s&#8217; famous victory over England U20s in the 2025 U20s <a aria-label=\"\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.walesonline.co.uk\/all-about\/six-nations\" rel=\"follow nofollow noopener\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"\">Six Nations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Wales are short of proven options at tighthead prop, increasing the importance of fast-tracking the development of youngsters such as Scott, Jac Pritchard and Kian Hire over the coming years.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh \" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">Follow all of our channels to ensure you stay up to date with the latest Welsh rugby news.
