AI companies have long relied on armies of data labelers, whose job it is to annotate, tag and classify text, images and videos to train AI models.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s not exactly a flashy occupation, with some saying they\u2019re forced to watch<\/a> privacy-invading footage. Others argue they\u2019re being forced to dig their own graves<\/a> by training models capable of doing their old jobs.<\/p>\n Other job opportunities in the space could prove more pleasurable. As Business Insider reports<\/a>, a chatbot companion startup called Joi AI, which offers a NSFW character AI chat service, is hiring ten \u201cmast**bation consultants,\u201d according to a job listing the company posted on social media.<\/p>\n Best of all, chosen candidates will be paid $2,000 a month \u2014 not bad for cranking the hog to audio erotica.<\/p>\n These consultants are being asked to spend four weeks writing about their intimate experience while testing the company\u2019s audio feature. Anyone can apply<\/a>.<\/p>\n Unsurprisingly, Joi AI was quickly drowning in applications, with the company\u2019s head of brand, Julie Levin, telling BI that the company had received over 100,000 applications in a matter of days.<\/p>\n \u201cWhat are we supposed to do with 100,000 applications?\u201d Levin said. \u201cI should probably call them \u2018winners,\u2019 because it\u2019s such a competition.\u201d<\/p>\n It\u2019s an unusual AI gig that will involve chosen candidates delivering weekly reports after completing \u201cdaily audio-guided sessions.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cWe expect people to learn something about how mast**bation affects their life in a good way or a bad way,\u201d Levin told BI. \u201cWe wanted them to reflect on that.\u201d<\/p>\n Chances are that not everybody signing up was sincerely meaning to help the company fine-tune its new audio feature. In a recent tweet<\/a>, the company reflected on the types of \u201ccover letter openings\u201d it had received, which ranged from \u201cthis is my calling,\u201d to \u201cI\u2019ve been training for this my whole life.\u201d Other openings included \u201cmy therapist said I needed a hobby,\u201d and \u201cI applied on behalf of my husband.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTime to go pro,\u201d one X user joked<\/a>. \u201cReady to contribute extensive data, repeatedly, for science.\u201d<\/p>\n The reality, of course, is that companies offering NSFW chatbot companionship have long been shrouded in controversy, from men creating AI girlfriends and verbally abusing them<\/a> to teenagers falling in love<\/a> with their new large language model-powered partners.<\/p>\n Experts also warn that a huge proportion of those with AI companions appear to be more depressed and lonely<\/a> than those who don\u2019t. Other research has found that people hooked on AI chatbots are more likely to experience profound breaks with reality<\/a> and higher levels of psychological distress<\/a>.<\/p>\n
