However, after returning to full training last month, the player is seemingly now in contention to make his comeback.

Andy Last confirmed to Hull Live last month that Cartwright was making good progress, with his potential return a boost to a side who were missing 16 players to injury and suspension in their last game at Leigh Leopards the week before last.

Posting on his Instagram page, Cartwright wrote: “Been a long 14 weeks on the sideline. A rollercoaster of emotions. Lots of rehab and hard work mentally and physically. Can’t wait to get back out there for these boys and the Hull supporters.”

Cartwright will leave Hull at the end of the season after the decision was made by the club not to renew his contract. He could make his return alongside the likes of Amir Bourouh and Matty Laidlaw, with both players hoping to be back in action should they pass all of their return to play protocols after failed HIAs.

Herman Ese’ese should also be pushing to play for the first time this season. The prop was named in Hull’s 21-man squad last time out but didn’t make the final matchday side, with Last confirming the player needed to ‘tick a few more fitness boxes.’ He’s had two weeks of further training and could make his return at Warrington.

Elsewhere, Will Pryce (ACL), Davy Litten (knee), Lewis Martin (ankle), John Asiata (hamstring), James Bell (knee), Sam Lisone (pec), Ligi Sao (shoulder), Arthur Romano (ankle), Connor Bailey (collarbone), Brad Fash (knee), and Joe Ward (ACL) remain on the treatment table.

Yusuf Aydin still has five games to serve on his suspension.
