\u201cEuphoria\u201d creator Sam Levinson says he considered shooting Season 3 without any nudity for Cassie, the character that launched Sydney Sweeney\u2019s career and has often sparked criticism for over-sexualization. But Sweeney nipped that idea in the bud.<\/p>\n
In an interview with the New York Times<\/a>, Levinson was asked about his relationship with Sweeney and her comfort with performing the mature content \u201cEuphoria\u201d requires of her. \u201cWell, it\u2019s funny. When I first wrote it, I was like, \u2018Maybe we shoot all of this and we don\u2019t have any nudity. Maybe there\u2019s ways to shoot around certain things?’\u201d Levinson said. \u201cAnd she looked at me and she was like, \u2018Are you kidding? I\u2019m playing an OnlyFans model. You\u2019re telling me you\u2019re going to, like, skirt around it?\u2019 And I was like, \u2018Yeah, OK, that\u2019s a fair point.’\u201d<\/p>\n More from Variety<\/p>\n The Times also asked Levinson about \u201ccomplaints that there\u2019s nudity when there doesn\u2019t need to be\u201d in the first two seasons of \u201cEuphoria,\u201d during which the characters were in high school. \u201cFrom the script, you get a sense of what the role requires,\u201d he said. \u201cEven when you go up to audition, let\u2019s use the role of Cassie, you know the role requires a certain amount of nudity. Are you comfortable? If they\u2019re comfortable, they get the role, then the next layer is the intimacy coordinator. I think it\u2019s a SAG rule that if an actor then says, after getting cast, \u2018Actually, I don\u2019t want to do that,\u2019 we can\u2019t force them to do a scene.\u201d<\/p>\n He continued emphasizing the importance of protecting actors: \u201cI believe very strongly that the best, most honest performances are when an actor feels free and safe. That\u2019s how you get a great performance. You can\u2019t if there is any tension. The emotion is going to be blocked. And that\u2019s something I\u2019ve known from my days of studying acting. So my job is to create the kind of best, most conducive environment for the actor to play this character.\u201d<\/p>\n Levinson praised Sweeney as a \u201ctotally fearless\u201d and \u201cwonderfully professional\u201d actress, saying, \u201cThere\u2019s a lot of trust that we have.\u201d He added: \u201cAnd look, we\u2019re tackling this world of OnlyFans where women are being paid to, like, whisper into an ear-shaped microphone.
