(RAF)<\/p>\n<p>BELFAST \u2014 Lead industry partners <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2025\/01\/army-chooses-bae-systems-for-prototype-base-defense-artillery-cannon\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">BAE Systems<\/a>, Rolls Royce and MBDA UK, alongside the UK MoD, have jointly unveiled Britain\u2019s future fighter demonstrator design, in line with a 2027 first flight target.<\/p>\n<p>This demonstrator will be the \u201cflagship\u201d aircraft critical to de-risking new technologies set to be equipped on the trilateral Global Combat Air Programme (<a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2024\/07\/new-uk-government-declines-to-take-position-on-gcap-fighter-program-defers-to-defense-review\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">GCAP<\/a>) next generation platform, the UK Royal Air Force (RAF) in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.raf.mod.uk\/what-we-do\/team-tempest\/news\/uks-pioneering-combat-air-flying-demonstrator-revealed\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">statement today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An artist rendering of the demonstrator showcases a design complete with a single cockpit, twin engine, canted twin tail and delta wing blueprint.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cmain structure, wings and tail fins\u201d of the crewed, supersonic, low-observable aircraft \u201care all taking shape using pioneering robotic and digital manufacturing and assembly technologies at BAE Systems\u2019 sites in Lancashire [England], signifying the advanced stages of its development,\u201d according to the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDesigned to test a wide range of new technologies, including the integration of stealth compatible features, the Combat Air Flying Demonstrator is a crucial part of the work to develop manufacturing processes and de-risk the next generation combat aircraft that will be delivered\u201d under GCAP \u2014 a partnership between the UK, Italy and Japan.<\/p>\n<p>The three nation program\u00a0aims to replace British and Italian Eurofighter Typhoons and Japanese F-2s, with the successor plane set to enter service in 2035. The UK future fighter demonstrator pictured today is a separate but related endeavor and does not have a formal name.<\/p>\n<p>Over 300 simulated flight hours in the demonstrator have been accumulated by test pilots from BAE Systems, Rolls-Royce and the RAF, according to the RAF statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCollectively, this important [simulator-based] work aims to dramatically reduce the time and costs involved in producing military jets, while maintaining the sovereign design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities needed to keep the UK at the forefront of global aerospace innovation,\u201d it added.<\/p>\n<p>Herman Claesen, managing director of Future Combat Air Systems at BAE Systems told <a href=\"https:\/\/breakingdefense.com\/2024\/07\/gcap-partners-showcase-new-concept-for-next-gen-fighter-jet-based-on-evolved-design\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">reporters last year<\/a> that GCAP industry partners are \u201csteaming ahead\u201d with design activities of the next generation fighter and shared that the next engineering milestone is a systems requirements review, directly supporting plans aligned to the launch of the project\u2019s development phase later this year.<\/p>\n<p>\t\tRecommended\t<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A artist rendering of the future fighter demonstrator.
