{"id":617546,"date":"2026-06-02T19:21:12","date_gmt":"2026-06-02T19:21:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/617546\/"},"modified":"2026-06-02T19:21:12","modified_gmt":"2026-06-02T19:21:12","slug":"keith-thurman-sums-up-errol-spences-chances-of-beating-tim-tszyu-after-3-years-out","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/617546\/","title":{"rendered":"Keith Thurman sums up Errol Spence&#8217;s chances of beating Tim Tszyu after 3 years out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Former world champion Keith Thurman has considered the impact of Errol Spence Jr\u2019s three-year layoff ahead of his encounter with Tim Tszyu.<\/p>\n<p>The pair will collide at a catchweight of 158lbs on July 25, with Spence entering his first outing since suffering a ninth-round stoppage defeat to Terence Crawford.<\/p>\n<p>Their surprisingly one-sided contest saw \u2018The Truth\u2019 lose his WBC, IBF and WBA world welterweight titles, while Crawford ultimately went on to become a three-division undisputed champion.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to reignite his career, however, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxsports.com.au\/boxing\/theyre-looking-for-opponents-now-american-stars-shock-push-to-join-tszyuspence-card\/news-story\/8420153795957a78396e242d52728579\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Spence is now gearing up to face former world super-welterweight champion Tszyu<\/a>, who lost his WBO title via a split decision defeat to Sebastian Fundora in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian was then stopped in round three by Bakhram Murtazaliev later that year, before suffering a <a href=\"https:\/\/boxingnewsonline.net\/news\/sebastian-fundora-defeats-tim-tszyu-by-seventh-round-rematch-retirement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">seventh-round stoppage defeat in his rematch with Fundora<\/a> last July.<\/p>\n<p>Tszyu has also made several changes to his training team over the past year or so, most recently hiring Australian great Jeff Fenech as his head coach.<\/p>\n<p>When asked by <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/66zIi7fCcRg?si=e7yNr2eam0XWqScQ\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MillCity Boxing<\/a> about their clash in Australia, Thurman highlighted the 31-year-old\u2019s greater activity as a clear advantage against Spence.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, though, \u2018One Time\u2019 recognises Spence\u2019s pedigree as an important factor against Tszyu, even with the 36-year-old having remained out of the ring since July 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of people see it as a 50\/50 [fight]. Spence has [had] too big of a layoff \u2013 that\u2019s the biggest question mark.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen your layoff is long [and] no one\u2019s seen you, they don\u2019t know what version of you they\u2019re gonna get.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re going to analyse you off of your last performance \u2013 [and Spence\u2019s] last performance was not that good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Tim Tszyu has the advantage of activity and then Spence has the advantage of pedigree.
