Her blood glucose levels were 0.8 on arrival and they should have been between 8-10.

“I’m surprised she survived. She’s doing a lot better today but it’s still very early. Roe Deer are extremely difficult to hand rear or work with as they get very stressed out.”

Kim described the fawn as ‘a little fighter,’ adding: “I didn’t realise she was so young and tiny. Her umbilical cord is still visible.”

After receiving two drips and a small feed at the veterinary practice, the fawn showed encouraging signs of improvement and is now in Kim’s care and is receiving plenty of love and cuddles.

Kim added: “She’s an absolute sweetheart but such a time waster as wants to be cuddled all the time.”

The fawn all safe and snuggled up (Image: Kim Goodwin)

Veterinary surgeon and practice owner Jordan Hall said: “As a practice we pride ourselves on treating wildlife, we work quite closely with wildlife rescues to get them back in the wild and rehabilitated.

“This little fawn had been seen over a period of a day with no mother around, it was a little bit neurological, had low blood glucose levels and was dehydrated. We needed to get that sorted as soon as possible.”

He explained that fawns and deer in general are very vulnerable creatures, but this one responded to treatment very well.

Upon receiving the news that the fawn continues to do well in its recovery, Jordan said that it makes him feel ‘proud,’ adding: “We pride ourselves in doing everything we can for them, unfortunately it doesn’t always turn out the way that you want it to.

“We have a really great team who all take part in that care from start to finish. We are here for wildlife and if anyone finds them in need, do give us a call and we will work to our absolute best to make sure they are sorted.”

The fawn sometimes gets nicknamed ‘Bambi’ as she’s so wobbly on her legs.

Over the weekend she took her first few steps before going back to sleep.

Kim explained that it is a team effort between a few rescues and that she has been given ‘the best job of looking after the precious little life,’ revealing that they will be looking to move her to a specialist rescue as soon as they can.

The fawn all safe and snuggled up (Image: Kim Goodwin)

One of the rescuers she often works alongside is Derek Davey who does a lot of work with seabirds, swans and wildlife.

The pair recently picked up a mother duck and her ducklings from the fountain at Tesco in Dorchester.

They are now accepting any donations for the young fawn’s care which can be sent via PayPal to: derekdavey1@outlook.com.

Kim Goodwin, who runs a local wildlife rescue in Weymouth, was alerted to the young deer after it…

[26
90,56,54,55,4407
post-617569","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-wildlife","tag-science","tag-uk","tag-united-kingdom","tag-unitedkingdom","tag-wildlife
["GET
