As previously confirmed by The Press<\/a>, York Head Coach Mark Applegarth confirmed that Griffin had suffered a ruptured pec, which meant he would be sidelined for a minimum of four months.\n<\/p>\n\n He was forced off after half an hour against former club Wakefield Trinity, and required surgery to tackle the injury.\n<\/p>\n
\n Griffin, writing on Instagram, has now confirmed his retirement, saying it was the ‘right time’.\n<\/p>\n
\n The Knights man wrote: “That’s all she wrote.\n<\/p>\n
\n “After 19 seasons, it’s time for me to retire from rugby league with immediate effect.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It’s not the way I wanted it to finish, but due to my latest injury, I believe it’s the right time.\n<\/p>\n
\n “However, one thing I’ve learned over my career is that I’m one resilient S.O.B.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Growing up in Witney, Oxfordshire, I never imagined that making my debut as a 17-year-old in 2008 would begin such an incredible journey.\n<\/p>\n
\n “The game has given me lifelong memories, friendships, experiences and opportunities that I’ll always treasure.\n<\/p>\n
\n “I’d like to thank every club I’ve had the privilege to represent: Wakefield Trinity, Castleford Tigers, Huddersfield Giants, Batley Bulldogs, Salford Red Devils, Hull FC and York Knights.\n<\/p>\n
\n “It’s been an honour to wear each every jersey and be part of so many special teams and communities.\n<\/p>\n
\n “To my teammates, coaches, staff and supporters, thank you for being part of the journey and for the memories.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Most importantly, thank you to my family. Your constant support, sacrifices and belief in me made it all possible.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Through every high and low, you were always there, and I’m forever grateful.\n<\/p>\n
\n “Rugby league has shaped so much of my life.\n<\/p>\n
\n “As this chapter closes, I look ahead with pride, gratitude and excitement for what’s next.\n<\/p>\n

\n Griffin joined Wakefield as a junior and made his professional debut in 2008 in a Betfred Challenge Cup victory over Salford.\n<\/p>\n
\n He would join Huddersfield Giants at the end of the 2008 season, where he made his Betfred Super League debut.\n<\/p>\n
\n A loan spell at Batley Bulldogs followed, before Griffin returned to Wakefield in 2011.\n<\/p>\n
\n Spells at Wakefield, Castleford, Batley and Salford followed, with his stint at the latter seeing the second row play over 40 times.\n<\/p>\n
\n But Griffin would spend the majority of his career at his next club, joining Hull FC in 2017.\n<\/p>\n
\n In his first season with the club, he lifted the Challenge Cup trophy at Wembley Stadium, as FC defeated Wigan Warriors 18-14.\n<\/p>\n
\n Griffin went on to make just shy of 150 appearances for Hull FC, scoring 45 tries in that time, before he returned to Wakefield for one final stint.\n<\/p>\n
\n In his third spell at the Trinity, Griffin won both the AB Sundecks 1895 Cup final and the Championship League Leaders’ Shield in the 2024 season, which included victories over York.\n<\/p>\n
\n He then joined the Knights in August 2025 and played nine times.\n<\/p>\n
