\n\tMoviegoers continued to submerge themselves into the Backrooms<\/a> on Monday, shelling out $7.669M.<\/p>\n

\n\tThat\u2019s the best Monday ever for a R-rated horror movie in June, outstripping the $4.3M made by New Line\u2019s The Conjuring 2<\/a> on June 13, 2016. As we told you, Backrooms for the 3 Arts-repped Kane Parsons<\/a> charted the best opening ever for A24<\/a> with an $81.4M domestic<\/a> and $118M global start<\/a>. The running domestic total over four days for Backrooms is $89M.<\/p>\n

\n\tBackrooms came very, very close to toppling Paramount\u2019s PG-13-rated World War Z<\/a> to own the best Monday ever for a horror film in June. That Mark Forster-directed 2013 zombie movie, which was defined as action horror, earned $7.67M on its first Monday in June.<\/p>\n

\n\tThe under-$10M co-production from Atomic Monster-Blumhouse, 21 Laps, Odd Fellow and Chernin Entertainment is expected to hold -55% in its second frame, with around $36M-$37M, potentially upsetting a No. 2 opening for Amazon MGM Studios\u2019 Masters of the Universe ($25M-$35M) this coming weekend. The frame is expected to be led by Paramount\/Miramax\u2019s reboot of Scary Movie ($35M-$45M).<\/p>\n

\n\tWe told you Monday that when it comes to a feature sequel for Backrooms<\/a>, Parsons is scouting a screenwriter to collaborate with.<\/p>\n

\n\tFocus Features\/Blumhouse\u2019s Curry Barker-directed Obsession was second on Monday with an estimated $5.2M, taking its running cume to $111M. As we told you, it\u2019s already Focus Features\u2019 top-grossing movie ever<\/a> at the domestic B.O.<\/p>\n

\n\tDisney\/Lucasfilm\u2019s Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu was third with a estimated second Monday of $2.2M and running domestic cume of $139M. The Jon Favreau-directed feature is currently pacing 8% behind Solo: A Star Wars Story, which ended its North American run at $213.7M.<\/p>\n
