We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.<\/p>\n<p>Your support makes all the difference.Read more<\/p>\n<p>Seven active <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/wildfires\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wildfires<\/a> are burning near major oil sands sites in northern <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/alberta\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Alberta<\/a>, raising fears of production disruption in a region that supplies a significant share of the world&#8217;s crude oil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/canada\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Canada<\/a> is the world&#8217;s fourth-largest oil producer, and the bulk of its production is clustered in northern Alberta&#8217;s boreal forest. Wildfires, which have always occurred in this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/environment\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">environment<\/a> but are more common now due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/climate-change\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">climate change<\/a>, have become a perennial threat to Canadian oil output. <\/p>\n<p>So \u2060far this year, there have been no significant disruptions to Canadian oil company operations \u200bdue to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.independent.co.uk\/topic\/wildfire\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">wildfire<\/a>.
