Our objective is beneficiation, processing, and industrial development,\u201d South African Trade Minister Parks Tau said.&#13;\n    <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n        The stance reflects a growing trend among resource-rich African countries seeking to capture more value from their natural resources instead of exporting unprocessed commodities.&#13;\n    <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n        The EU\u2019s interest comes amid mounting concerns over supply-chain vulnerabilities following China&#8217;s export restrictions on certain minerals with potential military applications. European policymakers say the bloc is determined to avoid repeating its previous dependence on Russian energy supplies.&#13;\n    <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n        \u201cThe best way to decrease dependencies is to diversify, and South Africa plays an important role,\u201d David McAllister, chairman of the European Parliament\u2019s foreign affairs committee, told Reuters.&#13;\n    <\/p>\n<p>&#13;<br \/>\n        Several large-scale projects are already underway.
