\n Butcher: Invisible Wounds will be showing on ITV4 at 10pm and ITVX on Tuesday, June 9, ahead of the start of the FIFA World Cup on June 11.\n<\/p>\n
\n The documentary talks about the football career and personal life of Ipswich Town Hall of Famer Terry Butcher.\n<\/p>\n
\n Being invited to work the premiere was a real honour. As an Ipswich town fan myself, interviewing a legend of the game like Terry Butcher was such a great experience.\n<\/p>\n

\n I was also able to interview Paul Hamilton from Halo, who funded the documentary, director Stuart Burley and Combat2Coffee founder and documentary contributor Nigel Seaman.\n<\/p>\n
\n Taking our seats in King Street Cinema in Ipswich, the cinema was packed with invited guests and friends, including Town legends Russell Osman, Simon Milton and Jason Dozzell.\n<\/p>\n
\n The film is directed and edited brilliantly, so it flips between Butcher’s footballing career and his personal life, with much of the documentary focusing on Butcher’s son Christopher, who died in 2017 and what the family and Chris were going through.\n<\/p>\n
\n In it, Butcher talks about some of the memorable moments of his footballing career, playing for Ipswich, Rangers and England.\n<\/p>\n

\n Contributions are given from footballing greats, including Gary Lineker, Ally McCoist, Russell Osman and Kieron Dyer.\n<\/p>\n
\n Butcher shares memories of playing for Sir Bobby Robson at Ipswich, winning the UEFA Cup, and signing for Rangers and captaining them.\n<\/p>\n
\n He also talks about his international career, talking about his infamous head injury, which led to his entire England kit being covered in blood, his scare tactics against Yugoslavia in the tunnel prior to a World Cup qualifier and playing against Diego Maradona in 1986 World Cup and the Hand of God.\n<\/p>\n

\n With all this, much of it talking about the highs of playing, there is the emotional balance of his personal life.\n<\/p>\n
\n Clips of Christopher are shown of him serving in Afghanistan, with interviews from Butcher’s wife Rita and his son’s Alexander and Edward.\n<\/p>\n
\n The cinema was in tears when Christopher appeared on screen, and the family talked about him and what he was going through.\n<\/p>\n
\n Butcher even recalls the moment he found Christopher unresponsive in his bedroom, in an incredibly emotional segment.\n<\/p>\n

\n Also discussed in the documentary is the work that Combat2Coffee does, and the work Butcher does with the Ipswich-based charity.\n<\/p>\n
\n The film ended to a standing ovation from everyone in attendance on the night.\n<\/p>\n
\n It’s such a well-edited, well-directed film, that explores the highs and lows of a footballing legend.\n<\/p>\n

\n It must have been so difficult for Butcher and his family to have shared the stories of their lives and Chris’, but they laid everything out for the viewer, making it such an emotional, heart-tugging and sometimes uplifting film.\n<\/p>\n
\n I urge everyone to watch this when it is released. It doesn’t matter if you’re not a football fan, this documentary explores more than just Butcher’s playing days, and has such a strong message at the heart of it.\n<\/p>\n
