Former How I Met Your Mother <\/a>actor Nick Pasqual has been sentenced to 32 years to life in prison after brutally attacking his estranged girlfriend <\/a>in a case that shocked Hollywood.<\/p>\n The 36-year-old actor was sentenced on Tuesday following his conviction for attempted murder<\/a>, rape, burglary, and domestic violence offences connected to the 2024 attack on makeup artist Allie Shehorn.<\/p>\n According to prosecutors, Pasqual broke into Shehorn\u2019s California<\/a> home in May 2024 and stabbed her more than 20 times before fleeing the scene and attempting to escape to Mexico<\/a>.<\/p>\n Shehorn miraculously survived the ordeal and testified against him. <\/p>\n During the trial, the makeup artist \u2014 who has worked on films including Babylon, Mean Girls, and Rebel Moon \u2013 Part One: A Child of Fire \u2014 gave harrowing testimony describing the attack while visibly bearing scars on her neck and arms.<\/p>\n \u2018I locked the door, and he just started punching holes in that door and broke that open,\u2019 she told the court. \u2018I just ran into the bathroom because I thought there\u2019s another lock on that door.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t Authorities later arrested Pasqual at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint in Texas shortly after the stabbing.<\/p>\n Los Angeles<\/a> District Attorney Nathan Hochman praised Shehorn\u2019s testimony following the sentencing, calling her courage instrumental in securing the conviction.<\/p>\n \u2018Today\u2019s 32 years to life sentence holds Nick Pasqual accountable for the horrific crimes he committed against someone who once loved and trusted him,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n \u2018Allie Shehorn miraculously survived and courageously stood before her abuser in court to testify about the brutality she endured.\u2019<\/p>\n \t\t He added that her victim impact statement delivered during sentencing was \u2018powerful\u2019.<\/p>\n Pasqual, meanwhile, released a statement through representatives to Entertainment Weekly<\/a> insisting he remains focused on \u2018sobriety, recovery, accountability, and a respectful appellate process moving forward\u2019.<\/p>\n \u2018I remain deeply saddened by everything surrounding this case, and I continue to wish healing and peace for everyone affected,\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n The actor is currently appealing the ruling.<\/p>\n \t\t \t\t\t\tThis Is Not Right\t\t\t<\/p>\n \t\t On November 25, 2024 Metro launched This Is Not Right, a campaign to address the relentless epidemic of violence against women.<\/p>\n With the help of our partners at Women’s Aid, This Is Not Right aims to shine a light on the sheer scale of this national emergency.<\/p>\n You can find more articles here<\/a>, and if you want to share your story with us, you can send us an email at vaw@metro.co.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n Read more:<\/p>\n The case drew widespread attention not only because of Pasqual\u2019s acting credits, but due to the horrifying details surrounding the assault.<\/p>\n Prior to the stabbing, Shehorn had reportedly already obtained a restraining order against Pasqual following earlier alleged incidents of abuse, including claims he assaulted her with a belt and sexually assaulted her months before the attack.<\/p>\n After the stabbing, friends launched aGoFundMe<\/a> campaign to help cover Shehorn\u2019s medical bills while she recovered from catastrophic injuries that reportedly required breathing tubes and feeding tubes during her hospitalisation.<\/p>\n \t\t In 2024, Shehorn told the Daily Mail: \u2018I just hope that there\u2019s justice served. People should know that this shouldn\u2019t happen, and he can\u2019t get away with it,\u2019 vowing to attend every court hearing.<\/p>\n In the interview, she added that she was \u2018dealing with permanent damage\u2019 after the attack and \u2018can\u2019t go back completely to how I was\u2019. At the time, she shared her hopes of returning to her profession despite injuries to her hands and vision.<\/p>\n \u2018That\u2019s the goal.
