{"id":618814,"date":"2026-06-03T11:45:15","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T11:45:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/618814\/"},"modified":"2026-06-03T11:45:15","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T11:45:15","slug":"uk-ghana-growth-partnership-to-drive-jobs-investment-and-skills","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/618814\/","title":{"rendered":"UK\u2013Ghana Growth Partnership to Drive Jobs, Investment and Skills"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The UK and Ghana have signed a new Growth Partnership aimed at delivering tangible benefits for people and businesses in Ghana, including more jobs, stronger infrastructure and better access to skills and education.\u00a0The Partnership will build on the\u00a0up to\u00a0\u00a3215\u00a0millions\u00a0of deals signed as part of the Ghana Investment Summit in London.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/06\/s960_44.27-MOJ-DPM-President-of-Ghana-1-06-2026-4077.jpg\" alt=\"\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Signed today during President John\u00a0Dramani\u00a0Mahama\u2019s\u00a0official visit to the United Kingdom, the Partnership sets out how the two countries will work\u00a0together from 2026 to 2028 to support private\u2011sector\u2011led growth, boost trade and unlock new investment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Partnership focuses on four priority areas: attracting private investment and finance; making it easier for Ghanaian businesses to trade; supporting infrastructure and industrial growth; and expanding skills and education partnerships.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It is backed by a series of practical initiatives designed\u00a0to deliver\u00a0real\u00a0results, including:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>New jobs and a stronger maritime sector:\u00a0a\u00a0\u00a3101million\u00a0($137m)\u00a0UK-supported project,\u00a0to develop the first commercial-scale ship repair and dry-docking facility in the Gulf of Guinea.\u00a0\u00a0The Takoradi Floating Dock Project (ShipRite)\u00a0is\u00a0backed by a consortium of investors\u00a0including UK co-owned Private Infrastructure Development Group (PIDG)\u00a0and delivered in partnership with the Ghana Ports and\u00a0Harbours\u00a0Authority (GPHA).\u00a0It is expected to\u00a0create\u00a0up to 430 direct jobs,\u00a0with around\u00a030% taken up by women;\u00a0while positioning Ghana as a regional maritime hub and reducing emissions by\u00a0overall travel\u00a0distances.\u00a0\u00a0The project also\u00a0pioneers the involvement of local pension funds in infrastructure finance in the region.<\/p>\n<p>Climate\u2011aligned\u00a0infrastructure:\u00a0a \u00a35 million UK-supported\u00a0(ODA)\u00a0Green\u00a0Project Preparation Facility,\u00a0hosted by Financial Sector Deepening Africa (FSD\u00a0Africa) and\u00a0in partnership with\u00a0the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund, designed to help transform viable ideas\u00a0from private and public sector developers into investable climate-focused\u00a0\u00a0infrastructure projects, with the potential to unlock up to \u00a3180 million in deals over three years,\u00a0supporting opportunities\u00a0for UK firms, supporting the Government of Ghana\u2019s\u00a0priority infrastructure\u00a0agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Mobilising global capital for Ghana\u2019s green economy:\u00a0Mere Plantations has announced plans to scale up plantation and reforestation activities in Ghana, including the use of\u00a0new technologies\u00a0such as biochar to enhance environmental impact and sustainability. As a major milestone, the company will launch a\u00a0\u00a385 million reforestation investment fund listed in the UK, the first Article 9 \u201cdark green\u201d fund on the London Stock Exchange\u2019s new Private Markets platform. Backed by the Ghana Forestry Commission, the fund will channel international capital into high\u2011integrity reforestation and carbon projects in Ghana, supporting jobs, restoring degraded\u00a0land\u00a0and positioning Ghana as a leading destination for nature\u2011based investment.<\/p>\n<p>New\u00a0partnership\u00a0to help implement the\u00a0Ghana\u00a0AI Strategy, as part of a wider\u00a0set of new Science and Technology\u00a0collaboration, backed by\u00a0\u00a36 million\u00a0UK funding.\u00a0During the Investment Summit,\u00a0Minister for Communications, Digital\u00a0Transformation\u00a0and Innovation\u00a0will discuss how UK\u00a0expertise\u00a0can help Ghanaian institutions\u00a0unlock the benefits of AI.\u00a0Ten new\u00a0Physics Partnerships have been funded\u00a0in partnership with UK Research and Innovation driving collaboration across universities.<\/p>\n<p>Restoring forests and livelihoods:\u00a0Rainforest Builder to inject\u00a0\u00a39 million in new investment in forest restoration in the\u00a0Oti\u00a0Region, supporting environmental protection and local jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Skills and education opportunities:\u00a0the publication of Transnational Education guidelines, opening new partnerships between UK and Ghanaian institutions and supporting access to higher\u2011quality education and training.<\/p>\n<p>Stronger healthcare skills:\u00a0a \u00a34 million, five\u2011year\u00a0partnership between a UK training provider and Ghana\u2011based Mangel\u00a0Klicks\u00a0to deliver specialist clinical engineering training, strengthening healthcare systems in Ghana and supporting skills development across the wider region.<\/p>\n<p>The Partnership is signed as the UK and Ghana mark five years of the UK\u2013Ghana Trade Partnership Agreement. Since the Agreement entered into force, bilateral trade has grown to around \u00a31.6 billion \u2014 an increase of 12.5% since 2024. It also builds on the strong investment pipeline\u00a0established\u00a0by British International Investment (BII) whose development finance investment into Ghana stands at approximately \u00a3140m, including\u00a0Maa\u00a0Grace, a UK-Ghanaian export-focused garments business\u00a0backed through Growth Investment Partners (GIP) Ghana.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>H.E Dr Christian\u00a0Rogg, British High Commissioner to Ghana, said:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"last-child\">This Growth Partnership is about\u00a0real\u00a0change people can see and feel.
