Katie Taylor farewell bout looks set to take place at Croke Park with official confirmation to come this Friday.<\/p>\n
Taylor’s promoter and management met with Croke Park officials in April with a view to finalising the fight in the biggest stadium in the country.<\/p>\n
The venue has been a long-term aspiration for Taylor, having conquered two weight divisions and broken down many barriers in female boxing.<\/p>\n
Promoter Eddie Hearn told reporters last week that a proposed date for the fight was Saturday, 5 September, should negotiations conclude successfully.<\/p>\n
Earlier this year Taylor committed to fighting in Dublin only for the final fight of her professional career.<\/p>\n
It was then changed to having a finale in Croke Park or nowhere, with extensive talks taking place with stadium officials in recent weeks.<\/p>\n
Matchroom Boxing, chaired by Hearn, have arranged a press event for this Friday at the Jones’s Road venue, where it is likely the event will be announced formally.<\/p>\n
An opponent is not yet known.<\/p>\n
Taylor, speaking to RT\u00c9 Sport in April, explained that a fight in Croker would be a dream come true: “It would be the icing on the cake to end my career in Croke Park. I fought in Madison Square Garden. I fought in the Excel Arena in London. I fought all around the world. This might even top it to be honest if I ended my career here. So here’s hoping.<\/p>\n
“There is no opponent confirmed to be honest but I\u2019m willing to fight anyone whether it\u2019s Holly Holm, Chantelle Cameron or anyone else. I think my whole career has stated I\u2019ve never backed down from any challenge or any fight. That is why I\u2019ve been involved in so many exciting fights in my career. I still have the heart for those big battles. Now one last time, we\u2019ll see what happens.<\/p>\n
“The only thing that would really interest me is the Croke Park fight. I felt like I was passing on the baton in a certain aspect.<\/p>\n
“The thoughts of seeing all the tricolours, 80,000 people in Croke Park for my farewell fight, can it get any better than that?
